The inspiration for this idea came from the youtuber who created the video above, he has plenty of well structured lore videos and will do the Lysander lore much more justice than this post.
Lysander's gift. A little secret in the world of Destiny that was recently released with the new Dawning live event, giving the player a Sparrow when they discover the gift. What does the gift mean? Why has someone named Lysander given us a gift anyway? How does this gift relate to the Dawning and maybe furture events? Let's look into that shall we?
TL;DR- Lysander's Gift hints to an upcoming Civil War or Faction War in the city.
Who is Lysander and what is the Concordat?
-To discover the purpose of this gift, we have to first understand who gave us the gift in the first place, Lysander.
Lysansder was the leader of a now disbanded faction kown as the Concordat. After the horrific time period in the city's life span known as the Faction Wars, some specfic factions were allowed to take residense in the tower and be part of the government of the city known as the Consensus. Now the Consensus is made up of the the Vanguard mentors ( i.e. Ikora, Cayde-6, and Commander Zavala), the city factions( i.e. New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Future War Cult), and the Speaker as the head of the Consensus. The Concordat faction was one of the factions accepted into the Consensus, and thus given an area in the tower to recruit Guardians into their faction even with Lysander's disapproval of the Consensus.
This disapproval eventually lead to Lysander planning to overthrow the Consensus and establish a new form of government in the tower. This attempt ultimmatly failed, and the Concordat faction retreated to the area we know as BannerFall. The map having the green Concordat banners and the Concordat insignia located on one of the two spawns of the map. The faction known as New Monarchy eventually attacked the Concordat faction at bannerfall, capturing Lysander and other high ranking faction members in the Concordat. Lysander and those who still follow him were exiled from the city and the Concordat faction lost it's spot in the Consensus to the faction known as Future War Cult. Lysander is now hidden outside of the city, slowly rebuilding the Concordat.
Fun Fact:
The other side of the map bares New Monarchy banners, next time you play on Bannerfall think of it as one team is New Monarchy and the other team is Concordat. Funny enough, the side with Concordat banners is said to be the worse of the two spawns with the other spawn being in the New Monarchy area.
How does this hint to an upcoming Faction War?
-Since we know who Lysander is and what the Concordat was, lets get into how his gift in the Dawning event hints to possible furture Faction war or even an attempt by Lysander to overthrow the tower's government.
I first got this idea of the Faction War from the grimoire card "Lysander's Cry", as it tells us that Lysander is plotting his return to the city and gathering Guardians in the Tower to support him. How is he gathering Guadians you may ask? Well, you know that gift that Lysander gave you? That is him attempting to gain your trust and support. We can see this from the item description of the Lysander's Cry sparrow as it reads:
Each Guardian wants something: greater speed, a rare weapon, a secret. Learn what it is. Use it.
This quote describes how Lysander is attempting to use our greed and desire for loot to gain our trust and to even attempt to gain our allegience with the Concordat faction.
Why would Bungie randomly include this secret, a new Grimoire card, and a new Sparrow if they weren't planning for it to be a hint for furture content? They know that the community has requested competition or a war between the factions for a while now. What better way to introduce this than to give us the idea that there may be members of the Concordat, supporters of Lysander in the Last City and even in the Tower that are plotting to over through the Consensus. This may be how Bungie finishes off Destiny, with a Civil War between those who support Lysander vs those who support the Consensus leaving the Last City open to an enemy attack. After all, as Shaxx claims, a Guardian's greatest threat is another Guardian.
Fruit for thought my fellow Guardians, have a nice day and I'm looking foward to what you think of my theory.

- The link above is to a post by a fellow theorist that has even more information that can be used for speculation with the whole Corcondat faction thing.

-
It's a very interesting theory... I've been waiting for that to happen since year 1.
New Monarchy 4 Life 👑
-
Awesome theory but bungie are too busy with density 2.
-
This will be funded by speaker Obama as a false flag on the tower to enforce martial law and prevent speaker elect Trump from going into office and to also disarm our guardians and put us in FEMA camps
-
What ideas do the Concordat value? Dead Orbit - Travel to other planets to call home . Future War Cult - The inevitably war is upon us, so eyes up everyone. New Monarchy - Seeks the reconstruction of the Golden Age.

Edited by TeWrecks: 12/26/2016 6:52:26 PMI imagine the ending of Destiny is a full assault on Earth by the Cabal (remember outbound signal mission?), resulting in the cabal full control of Earth and the Traveler. So we (last city humans and us guardians), we flee to Efrideet's friends (the peaceful guardians in the outer system), and we begin our fight to restore the Earth from there. Just a theory.

Pokémon go for destiny?
-
My name is byf did a video already pertai ing to this topic. A prelude to destiny 2 where we all begin again with nothing. No supers. No class nor subclass. It's just a lead up to destiny 2 where we have to begin everything again.

Edited by Blow: 12/25/2016 5:21:04 AMWhat if the Destiny 2 campaign is based around a fallen assault against the city where it's destroyed along with the VG, factions, etc and we are recruited to the concordat to get revenge against the fallen. The bulk of the campaign is about the guardian discovering that the concordat were actually behind the destruction of the tower and ultimately the last city. This could all culminate with an epic battle against lysander. Idk just some random ideas.
-
Well, if Lysander wants to lobby support for his rebellion, he better offer more than some crap sub-standard sparrow.
-
Awesome theory. However, I'm not optimistic anything will come of it. Remember the outbound signal mission? We all thought there would be a Cabal dlc next? I'm filing this away as another potentially awesome story element that'll get swept away. Hope you're right though.

Overthrow* Not over through Plez chang.

Speculated this awhile ago. But yours is more in depth and explains the actual lore behind it. In my post, I did highlight that there are new "Classified" items in the Database with the item description as a Star Wars Easter Egg. The description being "All will be revealed in time, young Padawan". With Lysander and The Concordat being the Rebellion in Star Wars. Could the Traveller and the Speaker be the Empire? Could the Classified Items be Faction Weapons, Armors and Accessories for the Concordat? Possible Faction Wars Live Event? Here's a link to my forum post. Didn't get much traction though. Nice, I like this!
-
For Future War Cult! I’ll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
-
I don't trust dead orbit they are hipsters and weed heads and they are socialist. New monarchy is too sneaky and power hungry. So bring on the war FWC 4life
-
What if we could have branching story lines depending on whether we choose the city factions or the Concordat?
This is Bungie though, so....
-
Let me ask you something. Do you really believe in all this mumbo jumbo? People with too much time on their hands come up with this lore, which I take your word for is true, and think bungo is going to implement it into the game. I'm sorry but bungolo doesn't care for lore or any of the grimoire which is probably why it isn't in the game yet and I don't think it's coming anytime soon.
Although $60 for a book of each race/faction might make them sit up...
Destiny 2 Civil War Coming 2017 prepare your wallets

The gift? Herpes.
-
how do you get lysanders?
-
What's if they blow up the tower and that is how we loose all of our weapons and armor for the start of Destiny 2.

Edited by HRH FURY: 12/24/2016 10:50:49 AMThis could just be me, but Lysander' gift feels like it has the best handling of ALL the sparrows. Maybe that's the "secret" referred to in the card. Any how, the sparrow (or maybe more racing time ..lol) definitely upped my game. Also when you view the sparrow in your destiny app it is whited out and labeled "classified"...with the quote "all will be revealed in time young padawan" when it is viewed
-
shit has been hinted at through lore for like 3 years now, doesnt really say much. great theory anyways
-
Sounds like it's possible. I'd like to see them make a new crucible game type where its a team of NM guardians and a group of FWC. Maybe even multi team? Then the rankings are shown on b.net. See which faction is winning the war
-
It already happened. At the the Bannerfall tower. If you got the Gjallerhorn you would know that.
