Did you know Minnesota was the first state to volunteer troops for the civil war? Governer Ramsey was actually at Lincons office when he got the telegram that the south had seceded. Ramsey immediately volunteered the First Minnesota Regiment. The pride of the young state that was Minnesota. Only there was one problem. It didn't exist yet. So Ramsey had to rush back to Minnesota train a regiment of volunteers and send them to Washington where they would fight against the Confederates.
Did you know that Texas was originally its own country? They successfully seceded from Mexico and was its own country from 1836 to 1846. The people of Texas however requested accept into into the U.S. as a slave state due to fear of being invaded again by Mexico. Although originally rejected due to the fact it would tip the balance of slave states to free ones it was eventually accepted as soon as another free state was admitted to the union.
What facts do you know about states or provinces or whatever you country has. I'd love to hear them.
