Regardless of current IB, drift is a special kind of PvP in Destiny. It's different because the objective is not just to kill the opponents instead you have to ignite the enemy's rift.
A few rules will help everyone new to this.
Don't rush to pick up the charge. Picking the charge and getting killed while holding it gives 400+ score to the other team. Instead, only pick up the charge when your team has secured the area. Note that if you have picked up the charge after killing the opposition then there is a big chance that they have spawned near their rift and may be camping there to defend it.
Defend your runner. Try sending 3 in front of him to clear the path and 2 with him to protect him. A dead runner is useless to your team. Hammers, stormcallers are useful to create holes is enemy defenses. However, remember that all the enemies will most likely spawn near their rift so be prepared for another meeting.
Kill enemy runner ASAP. Carrying the spark gives points so stragglers will cause you score damage. If the enemy runner is guarded then thin them out otherwise they will shoot you while you are chasing the runner.
Kill and kill as much as possible. This is ideal when waiting for spark charge.
Throw lasting effect grenades around charged spark to make it difficult for enemy to get close to it. Bubble with saint14 also helps here. You can't pick it if you can't see it!
Runnig with spark gets distance score. So if you picked it up and are surrounded by enemies just run away. You will get some of the distance score so best to run towards friendlies and regroup. Keep an eye on timer though.
Don't jump high into enemy rift. You can just walk to it and slam the spark. Jump makes you a more visible target in open maps.
PS: I am a scrub but now I see players much worse than me so this post is for those who can benefit from it. Elites can ignore it or contribute as they like.
Edit: and yes, IB with Rift is pretty bad specially after new messed up match making (MUMM). So you need a lot of patience above all. It's frustrating beyond any other mode of this game.

I like playing this IB clash so much fun.

SLAY SLAY SLAY
-
Picking up the spark as much as possible regardless of how many times you ignite the spark usually = a win
-
Play a 213 formation. 2 triangles. 2 defending but one of them must be ready to move up and help the lone guy in the middle if necessary. 3 up front attacking.

Edited by Noabody: 12/9/2016 1:17:33 PMI agree with everything in your post, except waiting to grab the spark. I don't think the enemy team should even have a chance to grab it at all, due to the forward progress you mentioned. Grab it, get it out of play, and regroup. Great tips and post though.

I fail at the first hurdle on this, win or lose i have same chance at rewards as everyone else & thats all i care about. Trying just isnt my thing on destiny.
-
I love rift. I'm a below average pvp player but I'm great at tactics. Rift gives me a better way to help out my team that doesn't require me to have amazing gun skill.
-
My top tip is: the spark won't hurt you, pick it up noobs. Don't dance around nervously waiting for a more ballsy player. If you make distance, we score.
-
1. Form a fire team of 6 2. Push spark with 10 second on countdown. 3. Move as a whole team. 4. Hit rank 5 on the first day and continue being bored..
-
How to win rift in 4 easy steps! : 1: Get a fire team of 6 sweaties *Must have OG gamertags or cool 4letter names to instill fear in the opponents* 2: Everyone have a mic and know callouts *Because callouts matter in IB*. 3: Search for a match against all blueberries *Don't face another 6man as to save time :)* 4: Go in and sweat. Have fun guardians :D

Running as a warlock, still easy

Edited by dnrobs: 12/8/2016 7:06:37 AMIf a player picks up the spark and just keeps it,which side wins
-
Just one rule! Be -blam!-ing rule! Push together to the spark not alone you are not murdaro wait to you team and push to the spark Than take the spark Than defend the runner Than ignite the rift Do it again and you won the game
-
I see a lot of people using titan blink effectively. And whats the artifact that allows you to run and shoot through walls called? I havent got it yet but isnt there an exotic called 'The helm of I refuse to take any -blam!-ing damage whatsoever in rift' ? Thats cool.
-
I try to be the sparkrunner mist games, it helps If you use bones of eao(increased control) and shadestep as a hunter, helps You make some impressive escapes and slams
-
The best strategy I use is blink and shadestep. The harder it is for them to hit you the better.
-
One guy won by cheating. 3 mida mags, 4 rounds from Saladins vigil, and 2 rockets from gjallarhorn all in the same minute and the guy didn't die. Pretty sure he was lag switching (what a surprise). And in case your wondering, my Internet is good and I am not lagging. The other guy was going from green to yellow to red and back to green constantly he would move and kill normally, but the moment he is getting shot at he will teleport behind you or just take the hits and not die.

How to succeed at IB Rift: Let other team get spark. Just kill people and work on bounties. Don't kill the enemy runner. 4-5 slams and game over. 5 minutes tops. Rinse, repeat and profit.
-
How to succeed in rift- Don't play it /thread.
-
The best way to fix rift is to make it like zone control, where you only score points by capturing the rift or killing the runner
-
How to succeed in Rift: Press touchpad. Hold triangle for about 5 seconds. Go play literally anything else.
-
You dont get distance score from running away. You get distance score from running towards the spark. But, running away is encouraged to help regroup with your team, I do this all the time if im the runner
-
Skip it and play anything else but it
-
Just leave the spark running to titans wearing twilight garrison who know how to skate well.
-
How to succeed in rift - spawn kill cus spawning in this game is shocking
