Interesting article about the game, how - despite being critically-acclaimed and a cult hit - seems to have had very little impact on adventure games in the last ten years. We have the next few years to see if Ueda can change that with The Last Guardian.

The Last Guardian is less SotC and more ICO in my opinion.
-
Prey For The Gods seems to be heavily inspired by it.
-
Shadow of the Colossus is really a puzzle game rather than a monster fighter. The only other game I've seen really take that into play was the God of war franchise, but it's first game had some of that before SotC was released, so they may have taken no influence from it.

The bosses are cool, but the fact that the world is 100% empty except for the 13 bosses is pretty stupid.

I had a friend in high school that showed this game to me. I can understand the appeal, given the epic kind of scale to combat. But it always struck me strange playing as such a small child. I have the same issue with the last guardian.

Garbage game. Bland, empty open world that serves no purpose, horrible controls, muddy art design, 20 second music tracks that loop constantly, mistranslations, etc. It's aged like bread in a moldy bathtub.
-
honestly i have no desire to play this regardless of how hyped it was, a little kid and large monster just doesn't attract me.
-
Couldn't get into that game no matter how hard I tried. It just bored me. which is odd because I enjoyed various other games that also utilized the "climb onto the boss to reach his weak point" mechanic on some bosses.

In some 90-minute video of zelda:botw it shows link climbing a rock creature and hitting its weakspot.
