You have all been extraordinarily quiet regarding the death of Fidel Castro. I was curious about how you all felt about it. I know that many leftist Westerners have been walking the line between vague, sentimental rhetoric and pro-Communist sympathy. Take Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for example.
“It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President.
Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation.
While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for “el Comandante”.
I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba.
On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”
Mm. Watered-down praise of a communist dictator is just delicious to read.
That being said, what are your thoughts regarding Castro's death? Be honest.

It's a thing that happened.
-
Finally
-
He's obviously a bad person but I would be lying if I said I didn't like him. He used his position of power to get more power and whatever else he wanted, something I would probably do in the same situation. I don't mourn him or feel happy he's dead, I just don't care. He's another spec that'll be forgotten in 5 weeks
-
Dun dun dun.. another one bites the dust..
-
You should've seen NBC's site. They had 5 news stories on the front page treating him like a lovable grandfather
-
I couldn't care less, honestly. His death will most likely change nothing.

-
I honestly don't know. It feels wrong to feel good about it, you know? Then again, hopefully things will change in Cuba. So yeah, I'm not sure how to feel.
-
Don't know enough about him, and b.net is far too biased and unorganized for me to learn anything about him that allows me to form a firm opinion.
-
Castro said he'd die when America fell.
kek
-
He was a tyrant.
-
"The asshollllllle is buried in shit" Good riddance
-
*munches bamboo*
-
My friend said that he's now a good commie
-
From an amateur historian perspective it's a tame, huge loss. The man was a living piece of history from an era with not many players left even though I may be overexaggering.
-
We should have killed him decades ago.
-
I thought he was dead already
-
Mostly indifferent. Man doesn't deserve to be spoken off that much. That's honoring him too much.
-
President? How can you be a president of a communist country?
-
I'm wholly unaffected by his passing. I don't know a whole lot about Cuba, but I think we'd largely consider it a failure considering its poverty and such. I wonder how much of that failure is due to being cut off from the US, even though it's only 90 miles from us.
-
I didnt even hear about it That's neat
-
So about kapernick.....

Edited by gamefreakvt: 11/28/2016 6:56:51 PMhe helped to lead a revolution against an oppressive government and in the end toppled said government. He had a lot of ideas for how the country would run, most of them good but unfortunately like with most revolutions, Castro became that which he fought so hard to destroy he replaced an oppressive regime with another oppressive regime. Part of me wonders how things would have turned out if he had not lost his idealism. Castro made his choice and killed his own people though so I'm pretty glad that he has passed. I'm hoping Assad will be the next to die
-
Honestly, I'm not educated enough on the topic to give an educated thought. But all I know is that the man was a dictator, and had his own people killed. I don't really like my PM either.

Edited by SuperStormDroid: 11/28/2016 6:36:41 PMI'm glad he's dead. Now if only Assad would die too, that way the people can take back Syria from his regime and ISIS (although Assad isn't affiliated with them).

Well, someone died, so that is always sad. Yet, he was a dictator, so none of my tears run for him.
