So I was watching KackisHD on youtube bringing up arguments why you shouldn't want your current character to transfer so I thought about how to recycle the characters and the equipment in a way that makes them valid in the sequel.
So if the concept of Guardians as a whole changes then our classes and focus will be outdated but there should be an exclusive passive perk added to our "new born" character that carries on the legacy of the class we played the most and especially the focus we enjoyed the most.
As destiny 1 comes to an end there should be a last quest asking us to put our most beloved treasures in a contain of sorts so weapons and armor could be redesigned in fashion and functionality and in addition to that gives the plot line for a starting quest in destiny 2 for reclaiming that loot chest. Obviously this container's filling capacity would be limited to 3 weapons and a set of armor.
As for emblems ... they should come as character creation options for example like a exotic glowing Trials Tattoo exclusive to the ones that obtained it at the time.
To top it off and this isthe last thing ill mention is as a reminder of your legacy there should be an item that you should be able to show off and actually gives you an advantage and thus a reason to wear at all times. It sounds unfair but this would make people proud and they'd show it off even in 3 years from now boasting how they did the first raid in destiny 1 back when it started . It needs to be like a cherry on top. Maybe an item with a permanent buff that is simple but brilliant and just compensates hundreds and thousands of hours spent in a game that as it dies leaves nothing behind of the legend that we were.
