I never liked the rule being removed, and I certainly feel now more than ever we would benefit from having religious and political discussions banned from bungie.net again.
How does everyone else feel? Do you feel that our community is mature enough to handle these discussions when people everywhere else seemingly can't?
-
How about we all just stop replying to them and down vote them. the negative reinforcement will cause them to die out for the most part
touch me bby
-
Please
-
Give politics and religion their own section
-
Nothing good comes from discussion of politics, religion or finance when the medium provides anonymity.
-
And religion. As much as I got banned frequently for discussing these very topics, at the end of the day nothing truly comes out of the arguments that ensue here. We don't change each other's minds, we don't sway an election or convince religious or non-religious people to stop or start believing in God, so what's the point? All it causes is conflict for the sake of conflict.
-
Totally behind this. Can we start a petition or some shit?

Edited by Doc Doge: 11/13/2016 4:07:25 PMDo it, they're an annoying waste of time unlike everything else that's an enjoyable waste of time. I miss the OffTopic shortly before the presidential race began...
-
We all knew that was a bad idea from the start. No way we are mature enough. I mean there was once a thread that said "replace one word in the title with balls" for Pete's sake.
-
It doesnt bother me because I can just not click on the topics.
-
I'm torn on the subject, personally. On one hand.. hell no this place isn't nearly mature enough to handle it. Not even a little. And there's a fare amount of hypocrisy in banning someone for "explicit sexuality" for using the word masturbation, yet there seems to be no issue at all with bashing someone's religious or political beliefs. If the user base is too young for sexual talk.. then how the ever-loving -blam!- is it old enough for the other? But on the other hand, I really, really don't trust Bungie's ability to tighten down on such things without cracking down on a whole host of other things that aren't a problem in the process. Remember.. these are the same people who decided that we were all getting too rowdy and figured the best way to settle us down was by banning forum games for crying out loud..
-
I say permaban the people who started them AND make them against the rules. I just know the same users who started those threads will cry about liberals banning those threads and that's all we need.
-
What the hell would this place even talk about instead? Memes of harambe and other nonsense? (Dont get me wrong thst stuff is funny on occasion but lets not allow the government to do what it wants!) You know it's this kind of attitude that made us choose between Trump and Hillary in the first place. Because ignorant people like you hide the truth by being uninterested in politics and making it hip and trendy to do so. Stop it. Try to give a shit because as we see the government doesn't!
-
There's nothing wrong with civil discussion on the matter. The real challenge is, obviously, keeping the discussions civil. Threads that stay civil and on-point should definitely be allowed to thrive. However, political threads that are created for the sake of starting a pissing match should not be tolerated.
-
Couldn't agree more. This should go for facebook, twitter, and youtube as well. Shits taken over everything.
-
Seems like the best action right now. 90% of the people creating and "discussing" in political threads are assholes. My fiancées entire family are hardcore conservatives. I agree with things of both parties. I know if I engaged any of them in political talks it would get heated quickly and the outcome could be devastating to our relationship. I actually like all of them despite our differences in opinions on politics, even though they don't have a clue about the difference. Crazy how good we can get along by not talking about politics.
-
Ban. All they do is stir up the haters
-
But we haven't made enough threads bashing ideologies we don't even care about, especially since February of 2015 when people suddenly decided bashing Atheism/Religion/Liberals/Conservatives was the funniest most original thing ever and the only thing we should ever talk about though
-
Bump.
I hope Cozmo does consider your proposal.
Please dear lord

I can see both sides to this one. First though, to the argument that these are interesting and informed discussions I call automatic BS. The next serious discussion I see will be the first. It's name calling and copying whatever Reddit post they read 5 minutes prior. I'm more sympathetic to the argument that participation in these threads is optional and they can be ignored if it's not your cup of tea. However, to that I have two concerns. First one is crowding out. The volume of these posts makes it that much harder to find the silly, fun, interesting posts you actually want to participate in. And the more effort required, the fewer people will participate, leaving these threads to wither. Second is forum atmosphere. Since these threads are without exception antagonistic, it breeds a culture of dickishness that spreads to other threads as well, so that even if you did try to start a fun, silly or interesting thread you'll only be insulted. So I guess in balance is have to agree it would be better not to have these threads.
-
I'd leave b.net that's all I come here for tbh
-
Agreed
-
-
I haven't seen one political thread where someone isn't having a flame war
-
I think there is a lot of good discussion going on here. It's kind of a hot topic. I do feel as if offtopic could benefit from the best members creating a political group to have some of these debates. 'Cause wow, we need some space in offtopic for fun.

I never could comprehend the sheer retardedness of Bungie removing this rule with the onset of Destiny.bungie.net. Especially on this forum. Did they think new age cults would spring up around the Traveler or some shit?
