Our countires leadership and the future of jobs

15 minute video. Automation. Considering most of you are young adults, some even still in highschool, this is going to be a issue for you. Automation is going to fundamentally change the economy you find yourselves in as adults in this next few decades. If our leadership isnt proactive, and our society isn't looking forward and staying ahead of the curve, our country will find itself in the middle of a massively growing unemployment crisis. Look at our current political landscape. Promising to bring back coal jobs? Those jobs are gone and not coming back. The idea that we can draw the present to the past is foolish, yet its promised all the time. The best part is, that nobody bats an eye. It's going to be a question that must be addressed. Do we keep trying to hold onto the economic climate of the past? How do we move ahead to economic climate of the future? It may not be some drastic crisis, but it is going to be become and issue and quickly. Discuss

UBI(universal basic income) is going to become mandatory for humanity's survival. If all the poor and middle class lose their jobs, no more consumers to fuel the 1%. I predict that probably won't be for a long time though. We'll probably have a near market collapse and tens of thousands of deaths from people not being able to afford medicine before the west over gives up their capitalistic ways. Hell, the rich may not realize until it's too late the whole economy crashes and burns. Something will have to give at some point.

      • I'm surprised neither candidate addressed this. Also, I doubt that Trump will even do anything about it while in office, as he should. Standing against automation is standing against progress.

        • Deep learning can replace most jobs that pay under 20 an hour. I am a GS 7 and my job could be replaced in a decade. Doubt it since the Feds are slow to change. Another study claimed 31% of jobs that pay under $40 will become automated. There was a program that learned several languages and took over 90% of phone calls in four months. I will find the article and link it.

        • As long as at least 50% of all employed automatons are female, i will support this.

          • Hah! I was just thinking about that video today. But seriously, what happens when we're all replaced with algorithms and machines? Going to be an interesting turning point for society as we know it.

          • Once we fuse man and machine and become cyborgs, we can retake our jobs from the robots. It'll all work out in the end.

            • jobs become primarily entertainment and service, as opposed to manufacturing or constructing (and possibly retail as a whole), we will be more focused on furthering humanity biologically (i hope) and better control our population (again, i hope). we will spend more time and energy developing technology and far less human resource building it. hell, maybe video games WILL be your job, and that dump truck simulation wont just be a simulation, or repetitive tasks will be done by controller as opposed to hands-on. coal? you should look into that further, it still can make jobs, and coal is still an effective and efficient fuel source.

            • I knew that robots would take over most jobs. That's why I'm taking computer classes and learning other computer junk.

              • Can humans make better decisions than machines? If so, they can work as decision makers. If not, then why are they making decisions on the structure of the economy?

                • Well, I won't be replaceable until people like me make robots who can take care of themselves. But yes, automation is the future

                • Hm, well yes more and more things will become automated but i wonder how mich truely will. A common arguement (typically used when discussing minimum wage) is that fast food resturants will replace workers. But thats not a good arguement because the technology is already there, if it was possible to replace all the cashiers itd probably be done already. But lets discuss as if we had readily availbile extremely smart technology that say could interact full with people and could replace lots of jobs (like robots you see in movies). Well then you have a job shift, less low skill jobs (cashiers) more high skill (programming etc.). I think increased education will be crucial.
