Christians for decades have been rewriting history to fit their false narrative that America was founded as a Christian nation that created it's law from biblical laws. I could explain in great detail why this is wrong, but I'll simply cite one single piece of information to discredit this entire school of thinking:
" Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
This is the 11th Article from the treaty of Tripoli passed by Senate while Adams was in office. Not a single member of the senate voted against this treaty, and not only that this was during a period of time where all founders of the nation were still alive, and in office.
The argument of, "well maybe it was too long and the legislators over looked this" does not apply, as the treaty is brief, and only about a page long.
Well, it's that easy to disprove the claim that America was founded as a "Christian nation." It only takes one citation to completely destroy a false narrative. America is a secular nation, has always been, and will continue to be, and if Christians dislike that they doesn't have a special privileges in government tough luck, and suck it up.
The reality is that America was founded on principles of natural rights, republicanism, secularism, and freedom of thought. Ideas that came out of the French Revolution and the enlightenment, and yes, even atheistic and deistic thought. Not that of the Bible. No where in any founding documents is Jesus ever bought up anywhere, and in fact in the Constitution it directly states that the government will not and cannot form a state religion.

You're absolutely right, it was created with religious freedom
but it's hard to ignore In god we trust And my favorite Endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights
The foundation of "America" (as in the United States of America) was founded by Christians, rather "the Americas" were settled by human beings dating before the the Native Americans (according to the "Land Bridge" theory).

who tf cares lincoln? You act like this shit matters. How does any of this affect you?

Bet you get offended by Merry Christmas

It's baffling how much effort leftists put into trying to keep the state secular, and thus less authoritarian. "The state cannot impose its religious values on me." Great, but why not? I mean, if it can coerce me into purchasing health insurance or paying a penalty, can't it also coerce me into adopting a religion or paying a penalty? Could it also coerce me into buying a copy of Sarah Palin's book or paying a penalty, too? Doesn't that authority rightfully exist?

Religion is for the weak minded. Toodles!
-
Not as a Christian perhaps but one of its defining principles is freedom of religion

No, but it was based on the Judeo-Christian laws.

I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of all religious people and non religious know this. We are not that stupid.

I have not heard that America was founded as a Christian nation... I know that it was founded by Christians but they themselves supported freedom of religion, and also a lack thereof. So if someone tells you America was founded as a Christian nation please clarify this to them...

No, America is not Christian exactly. But it is a nation under God. It was founded largely by believers, many of whom were Masons. There is a lot of masonic principle involved. Especially separation of Church and state. Masons are required to profess belief in a God but are forbidden from speaking about religion or politics in lodge. I believe that's where the separation principle comes from.
-
Any Christian who says America is a Christian nation is misguided. America was founded with certain Christian values and God is important to the founding government (see national anthem) but in the end America is a secular government.
-
America may not have been founded on Christian beliefs, but THAT WAS THE ENTIRE REASON ALL THE SETTLERS, PILGRIMS, WHATEVER MOVED TO AMERICA! FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM! Go back to 3rd grade
-
This is a pretty weak argument. I mean, America had already been founded before Art. 11. There were 3 major documents involved in the founding of America, which were all signed prior to Art. 11, and all 3 of them - The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Paris Peace Treaty - all make references blatantly suggesting a very Christian and theistic belief system. So as for America being founded as a Christian nation, one could easily argue that it was, but I think it at least just goes to show the common beliefs at the time, even though the idea was for the citizens to have things like freedom of religion, separation of church and state, etc. Regardless of any of that, however, I'd say it's just a matter of opinion.

No just everyone in it was Christian. Making the demographics a white Christian state with some black christians too.
-
And don't forget the fact that most of the founding fathers were deistic instead of Christian

You are an idiot. This happened after the country was founded. You have no clue what you are talking about. Liberal clown school did you no help.
