Similar has happened to me - my dead teammates could see him run up and shotgun me, but when I died the death cam showed his red silhouette running towards me from the other side of the map. When you kept getting pulled off target you were probably actually getting pulled onto where he really was. Whenever you see someone just run in a straight line and keep running once they hit a wall, or just standing there not moving or taking damage, just run away.
