So, as I do from time to time, I oggled ol' Xur and tried to decide what class he would be. Hunter, Titan, or Warlock. For the first time, I realized he has a patchwork of all three class specific gear. The hood of a hunter cloak, the bond of a warlock, and the mark of a titan.
That previous thought made me simply say "oh neat, Xur is able to rock whatever he feels like". Fast forward 3 hours now. Mid crucible match, I verbalize the thought "Holy shit! The Nine! They're masters of all 9 subclasses!" at my team. I explained myself, apologized for the scare I gave them, and we chatted for a bit about how cool a concept that is. Also, mentioning how monstrously terrifying a striker titan with throwing knives and self rez is. Let that image settle in...
So, likely, this is nothing. But it was a cool little "ah ha!" moment that I deemed interesting enough to share, seeing as we really know almost nothing about Xur and The Nine. Please, discuss!
TL;DR - What if The Nine are masters of all 9 subclasses and can freely utilize any and all abilities.
EDIT 1: I am fully aware this is highly unlikely everyone. It's a cool concept to spark some conversation. Let's keep this a toxic free post, as those are rare enough to come by on these forums. I am enjoying all the feedback though!

The fun thing about xur, is there is so little about him, any theory is possible. The worst thing about xur, is that there is so little about him, any theory is possible. :) That said, my personal and mostly unfounded opinion of Xur is he as something created by the Nine using some aspect of the darkness. Not saying he is evil, but the void tentacles of his face I think are part of what is holding the cells of his body together. He makes a statement that "The Awoken didn't have a choice. We did." I think that means the awoken didn't choose to have the dark half of their nature but the nine did. Xurs cells and body is not his own, but amassed together and controlled by the void. Xur refers to himself as plural, so he is likely a combination of cells from multiple sources all pulled together by the tentacles of darkness that emanate from him. As far as the nine. I've considered the possibility of them being survivors of various species previously destroyed by the darkness, assisting us from the shadows to possible leviathans like the one the sisters encountered on their way to the worm gods in the books of sorrows, to something else entirely. Regardless of who they are, they have knowledge of and are able to in part manipulate the darkness imo.
