Exclusivity for non purchasable items

Day 1 player here and I like to begin all my feedback by stating how much I love Destiny. The hard work of everyone at Bungie is not lost on me. Though, as a long time player who has poured countless hours into this game, but now find myself playing less and less, I feel the responsibility as a huge fan to express my views. This years Festival was fun, and entertaining, but has left me with a sour taste. The reason being that damned green sparrow. Hahaha, I know it sounds petty and childish, but let me explain. I can see the fiscal point behind selling exclusive items, I get it, and ultimately I think it's good for the game. I spent entirely too much money trying in vain to get that sparrow. I don't really mind, the real problem for me lies in the fact that there is very little-to no exclusivity to in game accomplishments. I think from a business side this is short sighted. Moments of Triumph is a wonderful addition, why not make more rewards for in game accomplishments? The harder, the more exclusive, not console medals, but something the player can actually display on their character. For instance, before ROI came out this year, I spent a huge chunk of time attempting to max my grimoire. After an extremely difficult, frustrating, and at times heartbreaking journey I finally got the Rumble wins, two weeks before ROI released.(And you brought in private matches that enables players to boost grimoire, but I've already ranted on that topic far too much) In my entire time playing Destiny I've never felt more deserved of a medal, an emblem, shader, anything non light related. Rewards that are tied to achievements are so very much more valued and rewarding to a player and they keep playing for them. This brings me back to the green sparrow, the one thing that is so seemingly exclusive that I can never get it. That sort of special reward should be given out for 3 manning a raid, or completing a raid under a certain time limit, a grimoire achievement, Trials clutch wins, flawless raids or strikes, reward the lore hounds, hell, even reward hours played. When you make the most exclusive items in the games items that can just be bought for the right price(I've heard some players paying over $100) I believe, in the end, it's going to really turn off most of your fan base. Or, maybe it's just this dum dum's opinion, dunno.

  • I understand what you're getting at, but the Grimoire being removed from gamer tags was done so for the exact reason you want it there - exclusivity (at least, according to Bungie). While exclusives can be a great way to show off accomplishments, they can, and have, led to bullying and elitism. Don't have Hard mode Emblem? Kicked Low grimoire? Kicked People will, and do, use any means necessary to to show their "superiority", even if is unnecessary for the task at hand. The sad part is that it's only a small percentage of gamers acting this way, but their presence looms enougg to warrant removal or limitations of said items.
