My husband and I play Destiny very regularly together, and, obviously, we are in the same house using the same internet connection. We CONSTANTLY receive the "unable to join target player" error message, and from looking around here we are not the only ones. It has nothing to do with our internet connection as my husband works in IT and can verify that everything is working as it should, not to mention we play several other multiplayer games together that have ZERO issues (Overwatch, PvZ, Battlefront, Titanfall, Halo - literally NONE of these have problems with us playing in the same lobby/fireteam). Destiny is the only game to give us this error, and it happens literally EVERY time we boot up the game. The only way we get around it is waiting it out, and trying over and over again until we want to rip our hair out. This is ridiculous and I want Bungie to fix this. This error never popped up for us until Rise of Iron. I understand nothing anyone in the forums can say will help as it is clearly Bungie's error, I'm just hoping that if enough people make it known that this is still an issue that they will get more eyes on it and correct it.

My girlfriend and I are PS4 players, we have the same issue but have found a relatively successful resolution. 1, Both players must coordinate with each other when you have to press x at the title screen. Player 1 must press x and sign in then player 2 after but no more than 2 seconds . 2, The same must be done when selecting your character, player 1 selects the character then player 2 within 2 seconds. 3, Lastly player 2 must join player 1 as quickly as possible in orbit. Neither player can press any other buttons (including checking inventory or changing weapons) We have found that switching the console off and using this technique works. Quitting the application and restarting also works but not as often. Hope it helps some of you. L1onal

I couldn't agree more Selphie, I love Destiny. If I'm being honest, which no one cares (i get it), I freakin love this game (I'm dumb thanks, I know, and that doesn't make it better either). I use to have friends come over and compete in Trials but, to address the elephant in the room (Fat *ss elephant mind you) since Rise of Iron we can only join 2 people at a time and that's a fiasco to put it nicely (very nicely Bungie cause it sucks not being able to play games the way you guys have intended for us to play them, ya know, together). There is a work around I have found that allows us to connect with one another involving going to the tower, disconnecting your internet, connecting it, then trying to join your desired teammate again but, c'mon, does that even sound appealing, it reminds me of Joey Salads Bungie...e.g. he's hard to stomach just like this issue (e.g. for example, if you don't know what e.g. means). This workaround only allows us to join 2 on the same network which brings me full circle Bungie...We should be able to join each other on the same network freely like we used to be able to, this (defecation) is causing people unnecessary frustration who ultimately just want to play your game with people they want to. Eyes up Bungie, this one is worth your time.

Me and my Dad have also had this issue just since rise of iron has come out. We have had one way that is about a 50% chance of working. If you have both xbox go into network settings and then go offline. Then go back into your home menu and sign out of your accounts. After that both xboxs need to go back into network settings and press go online at the same time. Then you will go back to xbox home and launch the destiny game, you should still be signed out. Then press A on the destiny title screen and it will bring up a sign in page. Both of you need to sign into the same account, one that you are using. Here is where it gets tricky make sure that the account that you are using to sign into that the xbox that is using that account presses sign in about 2 seconds after the xbox not using that account. And then it will kick the other xboxs account out and you simply sign into the account you want to be and the other xbox should be signed in already go to orbit and you should join up. Good Luck! And give me some feedback on how this works.

Just started a post that addresses this issue. Mine is fixed. If you are not a Comcast user I am sure you can contact your internet provider to get the proper equipment.

So this is a work around that seems to work 100% of the time. Trust me when I say I have tried EVERYTHING else! 1. Both players load the game and go to the tower. 2. Both player at the same time press the XBOX button and quit the game. 3. Both players at the same time start destiny again and this should generate a 'WEASEL' error. This should usually happen to both players. 4. Close the error and continue to selecting your characters. 5. You should now be able to join the same fireteam team. I know it's a ball ache it this does genuinely work. You can even leave the fireteam after and you will have no issues rejoining. This is a fix for as long as you are online but the next time you play you will have to do this again. Just goes to show that this is truly a bungie issue as to get this to work no changes to any network settings need to happen. Hope this helps.

It's definitely not you or your connection. It's Destiny. It's ridiculous that it's been over a month since Rise of Iron's launch (which caused the issue in the first place) and we've gotten nothing but a 'Yep. It's a problem we're aware of.' Being completely unable to play with friends in the same house save for seemingly random flukes where the stars align and it lets people join each other is insane.
