No, year 1 nightfalls werent difficult because they sent you back to orbit when you team wiped... the content didnt change because you died... the only thing that happened when you wiped is that you had to reply through content you had already completed the previous try....
the whole reason Bungie got rid of that aspect of the NF was because all it did was create frustration for players
