I could be wrong here but as far as I am aware there is currently no bonus applied to wearing a full armor set?
I think this would work relatively well within the game.
Say you managed to get your hands on the full set of Iron Banner gear (Helmet, Chest Piece, Arms, Legs & Class Item) you would get some sort of added bonus, like the third eye perk on all weapons, or +2 Agility etc...
As I am using the Iron Banner armor set as an example then the bonus would be more aimed towards aiding within the PVP aspect of the game.
And as an opposite example the Vanguard or Raid gear sets would help more towards PVE aspects of the game.
And I guess the faction gear sets would come in both PVP & PVE formats.
This would make grafting towards obtaining a full set of gear more appealing and worth while.
If you agree with me then please like and bump this to help get it noticed!!!
Edit 1: Ok so quite a lot of traffic overnight and some good points on both sides of the argument but I would like to make a few things clear!
Destiny is NOT the division... I never once compared the two or wanted to for that matter as I am not a fan of the later!
Some people are having hissy fits (Which is to be expected in this community) about my idea penalizing players who still want to mix and match. Now let me be clear the set perks would not be godly bonus perks that makes everyone OP! They would not be any more OP than random exotic perks!
Variety would still be there with the sheer amount of different sets around and obviously a large if not majority of players would still want to mix and match and use exotic gear (Which is fine, nobody is putting a gun to your head saying you must wear a full set)
I am not asking people to be sheep, all I am saying is this gives us (The players) more options which can never be seen as a bad thing!
At the end of the day, if they did create something along these line nobody is forcing you to collect full sets, every player plays differently and if I wanted to sacrifice an exotic piece of armor for wearing a full set as the perk I get with it suits my style of play better then how is that a bad thing!...
I am all about constructive criticism but so far nobody has put up a decent argument why this couldn't work apart from butthurt whining about something that hasn't even come into play...

Could be interesting. Eso has been doing this since the beginning. And other games have it aswell. Wow and division. However the bonuses don't need to be so drastic as those.
-
Great idea One thing could be done is since people might not have the full legendary set the exotics could be an one in all matching the sets so you only need 3 pieces of gear and an exotic as a filler so people don't complain about how they need a certain exotic because they are bad at the game with out it or just feel as if they need it.
-
don't see why it shouldn't be something.. keeps the grind going for those who use the best setup instead of the full set of armour, they want the best perks and might continue to look for that elusive piece or wear that one piece that doesn't work perk wise but, gives them a specific gear set perk that they want. perhaps each set could have something different about it, some with + to agility, or int, str, dis or even faster reload on all weapons, just spit balling ideas. added vanguard or crucible rep. the possibilities are pretty big and it would be interesting.
-
then people would not be able to use exotics, how many titans other than me got to 5 with out the aid of twilight, immolation fists all the way.
-
I feel like this would be easier to put in pve, honestly to me that would be cool to see!

You argue that giving bonuses to specific sets would provide more options. It wouldn't. If there is any kind of a bonus to be had then people would obviously feel inclined to take it to feel they are as on equal footing as possible as marginal gains can make the difference between kill or be killed. Another reason it wouldn't provide more options is that people wouldnt be able to have anywhere near the cusomisation they have in appearance or stat rolls to get that perfect set up for them. It takes enough grind to get the right gear for someone even now so imagine if you were also having to look for specific set items too. It would be ridiculous getting the items you needed to complete the set but they dont have the rolls or vice versa.

I've said the same thing, many people here don't grasp this concept though. Armor "set bonuses" are abundant in pretty much every MMO (not calling Destiny an MMO) so the concept isn't new. Moreover, I think they should have 2/3/4/5 PC bonuses and not just full set bonuses. I also believe weapons should be included as part of the sets. Full set bonuses would be the strongest, of course. Something along the lines of... ToO Gear/Weapons 2 PC +2 Agility 3 PC +2 Armor 4 PC +2 Recovery 5 PC - Killing blows increase enemies revival timer by 8 seconds. WoTM Gear/Weapons 2 PC +2 Agility 3 PC +2 Agility 4 PC +2 Recovery 5 PC - Increase Power while holding SIVA Charges/Scorch Canons. Basically, this theme above. It would allow you to mix and match to make your own unique builds (ie. 2 PC ToO gear and 3 PC WoTM gear for max agility) or give incentive to not even run an exotic. If you want that revival penalty bonus then you may have to forego your exotic armor or weapon. Either way, THERE WOULD BE CHOICES TO MAKE, that matter. I know this won't come to Destiny, but I certainly hope it is a part of Destiny 2.

World of Warcraft does this.

Edited by Lxj: 10/7/2016 2:29:59 PMThe iron banner gear should let you spawn in with heavy for 5 piece :D
-
Wouldn't exotics -blam!- that up?
-
Maybe instead of bonuses for the entire set you could get bonuses for wearing 2/3 pieces of a set as well? That way people could judge which bonuses they wanted and still mix and match if they choose tom
-
Yes however the only benefit should be rep gains or purely cosmetic such as a halo affect e.g. new Monarchy crown or Vanguard Mark

Edited by Solargeo: 10/6/2016 8:52:04 PMFull sets? No Partial sets including ghosts weapons and artifacts? yes. Befor you all say Division and stuff on me. Diablo 3 Even more so for Reaper of SOuls.. Check and Mate.
-
No. The Division. It's a Cluster -blam!-. No to 'Gear set' bonus. Diversity of 'mix and match' works in Destiny. The Division. No. NO. NO.
-
I didn't read all of this (sorry) but this would make a good improvement on the game, especially since it fits well with the base genre (mmorpg). And don't get discouraged by those who say negative things about this. 99/100 their the same people who bitched about the game in year 1 and got most of the good/great parts of the game nerfed in the first place. Fight on, this is a great idea!!!
-
I think that could be a nice idea actually, makes it more worthwhile collecting stuff
-
I have seen this suggestion a lot and never has it made more sense. In ROI, Bungie was the one to put more emphasis on sets. You have the Days of Iron set, the Iron Banner set (the same as Days set though), the new iron engrams can get you Year 1 IB sets, Trials sets, factions & vanguard sets, house of judgement sets, and Queens sets. In order to wear the whole set you are or most likely sacrificing: 1) Use of exotic armor 2) T12 armor if you have it 3) use of good perks you have on other pieces So yes, there should be a bonus for wearing a full set
-
A bonus would be great, but not for anything ability rated in PvP. Maybe give them a crucible reputation bonus or something cosmetic. It's not a good idea to give perk/ability bonuses in PvP. It will affect game balance.
-
No no . Wait for it NO. Dude play the division trust me no armor sets !!!
-
Love the idea if the perk was something like "not being able to be shot through walls"
-
Would love to see gear set bonuses. Trade off exotics for different boosts. Would add variety
-
would be cool to see them take this element from MMO's and RPG's. Could be simple things like increase rep gain for specific factions, deal bonus damage against specific minions of darkness (I.E queen's wrath would give you more damage against fallen enemies). Things like that. Doesn't punish people who mix and match but it rewards people who wear full sets.
-
Agreed. I'd like to wear a full set of legendary gear, but there's no benefit to doing so over wearing an exotic.
-
I don't think a system like this can be implemented until destiny 2. Destiny as it is with its armor and exotics is somewhat shallow when you compare it to something like diablo 3/path of exile when it comes to hear sets or bonuses. I think that destiny has the potential to do something just as unique and interesting with it. So it would make giving up your exotic slot a worth while thing. As of right now, exotics are just too good to pass up. Would a defender give up saint 14 helm in pve for increased agility? Probably not. Would a voidwalker give up up obsidian mind for +2 armor and third eye against minions of darkness? I doubt it. Would a golden gun gunslinger give up celestial for increased recovery? I again don't see that. As of right now, destiny doesn't have the infrastructure to make such massive changes. Gear sets can be awesome, like they are in diablo, but the foundation needs to be right. I suspect we will see something like this in destiny 2. Right now, I don't see major changes coming
