Destiny 2 should be a prequel set in the beginning stages of the collapse. These early stages of large scale war would be great for gameplay, story & cinematic spectacle purposes. This time period of Destiny's lore is the most interesting since it's the time when a lot of really cool and crazy stuff happened. The solar system during this time was teeming with cinematic plot events. Huge battles across all the planets including epic space battles. The legendary guardians from Destiny's grimoire lore would be still alive and could be used as NPC's in missions and the plot. Character transfer could also even be possible even though the game would be prequel. How? Time travel! Remember the Exo Stranger? Remember that theory on how she was a time traveller? I'm no writer but I'm going to quickly create a scenario which could be used as Destiny 2's intro. Destiny 2 begins, players with a Destiny 1 imported character are approached by the Exo Stranger and after some dialogue and story info she sends you back in time to the beginning stages of the collapse to carry out an important mission. For anyone who is familiar with Mass Effect's character import they could also add an option where you could change your characters appearance with Destiny 2's updated character creator. For players without a Destiny 1 character their character will be a brand new guardian who has just been brought back from the dead by a ghost. Then approached by the Exo Stranger and same as above. Obviously brand new players without a Destiny 1 character will have no gear but dedicated Destiny 1 players will have all their gear from Destiny 1. (Yes, I want my D1 characters & gear to come with me into Destiny 2 so I feel like my time and hard work input has been appreciated but its Bungie's job to make me forget about my old gear by creating new awesome weapons/gear for me to collect and want to use instead however if I want to wear my Ghost Angel cloak or Crota raid gear as vanity I should be able to). Like I said I'm no writer, Bungie hire people for that. I just hope with Destiny 2 they actually use the writers story instead of throwing it in the trash and conjuring up some messy half assed story. That old scrapped story with the evil traveller twist was way better than the story we actually got. I just think my little idea is a good way to wipe the slate clean and start again in a more interesting time period that could benefit a good story while retaining our hard work and grind. There have also been rumours/speculation that Destiny 2 could be a prequel after concept art was leaked of earth falling during the collapse which made me believe something like this idea could be realistic.
