I just got done with the main story missions on Rise of Iron, and I must say that Bungie has once again created a master piece. The pride and commitment of Lord Saladin Stands in stark contrast with the darkness of the encroaching SIVA. Like so much else of what Bungie has created, the imagery and ideas they weave into Destiny resonates with so much that is part of the real world. I find myself asking the question: what does SIVA represent? What do the Iron Lords correspond to in reality? Saladin says that SIVA was believed to have the potential of limitless creation, the building blocks of a new civilization. But it was the pride of the Iron Lords that misjudged it.
So what does SIVA represent? It embodies the prideful, self confirmed belief that people place in modern science. People believe assertions without observational evidence or real proof. For example, science teaches that earth is round, a belief that can be refuted with the most basic observations available to those that take time to look. Science also asserts that space travel is real, while simultaneously claiming that only 536 individuals have ever entered space over a span of 60 years. Science is a false belief in a hope that is not real. Like SIVA, it promises great things, but in realty cant even offer a decent explanation as to why rivers flow East to West AGAINST the direction of the ball earths supposed rotation. Like the Iron Lords, young inquisitive minds confidently believe that science can send people into space, despite the fact that science also claims that upwards of 78,000 tons of meteoric hits earth each year. Enough to tear anyone on a supposed space walk to shreds. Science is a failure, just like SIVA. But it is one with a deadly price...
