Ways to Counter Straight Nerfs To Hunter and Merely Altering Perks : True Balancing
After a long day in the crucible (ok maybe just several hours but shhhhhh no-one has to know that) something I've not done as a Gunslinger in a very, very, long time I started remembering why people constantly complain about the The Golden Gun. It's a super, and it One Shots. Kind of like the Fist of Havoc, an indirect or within proximity Hammer of Sol....a Warlock's MELEE during Radiance (which recharges faster w/ scorch or solar wind, but I'll be getting to that).
So to other people who Main other classes, please listen to my side of the story as a Hunter Main before screaming things like 'Oh this Hunter is SO Salty' and 'Blah Blah Hunter complaints as Usual (tm)'
As we should all know one of the Original Perks on the Golden Gun was effectively The MOST Useless perk in the game: Kills (Precision even? I can't remember, someone please tell me if was or wasn't if you see this tyvm) with the Throwing Knife during Golden Gun Extends the Duration of Golden Gun.
This at the time admitted to me that they knew it had an incredibly short duration to get off those shots, especially in Crucible.
They changed that perk however to merely Precision Kills reduce the Cooldown of GG; something a hell of a lot more useful.
So here is my dilemma - there is little encouragement to use it since the Knife Nerf (in my opinion).
My solution? Knives return to being a one shot, and the 'Precision Kills give you your Knife back' changes to something alongside the equivalent of a Warlock's Energy Drain, aka it reduces the cooldown to 5~6 seconds, so you can use it again soon.
My Yr1 experience in Crucible favouring Golden Gun did not include spammage of these 'OP' one shot knives - they have a limited range, a descending arc so you need to....yanno, Aim With Them. There is minor target acquisition I will admit, but testing with a friend I would throw left of them and them moving into it, it Would Hit. Them Moving away, it Wouldn't Track into them. Crouching fast enough seemed to work in avoidance, the Throwing Animation is pretty blatant - but I can sympathise on why people don't like one-shot knives, I don't like One Shot Shoulder Charges which consume no Melee Energy, Can Give Health Back On Kill, Have Exotics to buff them considerably....Is Possessed My Tanker McTankerson the Class Archetype....You catching my drift? (This isn't me calling a Nerf to Titans, as much as I would like Shoulder Charge to have some sort of penalty such as minus 1 armour and or Agility for using it and unstoppable remaining a gain in Armor).
Moving on to my Reasoning as to Why the 'Reduced Cooldown' Perk would work: Warlocks experienced the Nerf to Solar Shield, because it was rather OP, you didn't win a fist fight with one, couldn't if you just tried to PURELY melee it out. But Bungie then compensated the Warlock by buffing the charge times of Scorch and Solar Wind, something utterly unnecessary in my opinion as it does rival Fast Twitch as those attacks do far more damage and Solar can be used to smack people flying, jerks you around and generally leaves you confused and vulnerable (apologies if they haven't fixed the push mechanic yet, I haven't tested it but for the sake of argument if it isn't lets just please imagine it does). This in combination with radiance, which does minor reduction to cooldown of melee means I've been able to One-shot 3 people in combination with the Radiant Skin, Scorch and a little help from the Praxic Fire...not OP at all obviously...especially with the dubiously known Warlock Melee range...
Titans' too have reduced cooldown on the Sunbreaker Melee, which burns enemies and if getting a kill with one returns the charge. Equally on the Striker Stormfist has a (pretty good chance in my experiences both pvp and pve, getting 4 insta-resets on it on Fateful Crucible Day, though typically if it does proc it's 2~3) instant cooldown, a Melee of considerable damage.
So personally I think that The Knive were not OP, but did need the Perk Nerfed to a severely nerfed cooldown instead. Also Tripmines deserve to be a one-shot too, that's objective fact, it's a linear mine, Lightning Grenades have the most ridculous conal/cyclindrical hitbox I've experienced playing against as all 3 classes and Using on a Titan, don't see them getting a Nerf.
To the people who are still skeptical about instant cooldowns, The Voidwalker can build around Grenade Kills giving back your Grenade Charge with the Kill Returning Your Health, You weaken a sucker and then lob a good axion bolt GG, you're done, you get your 'nade back, health oh and a chunk of charge for your Super, that too requires a kill, so Precision Shot Knives deserves it too, I Swear they're not God Tier Tracking, they don't explode next to you and give an AOE Kill, I promise.
Oh and Concering the Duration of Golden Gun, buff it. Hammers being able to hold onto theirs for significantly longer than a non-AOE, Direct Hit for kill Super with a capped Range. Do not use the Arachnid against me as it equates to 'Zoom in on Golden Gun to get Extra Time' aka 'Less Range of Vision and No Radar in Order to Get the Deserved Time have the Gun Out Without Increasing Range with Zoom In' which is a pretty useless exotic (I've experimented, it's awful). Kind of like the increased zoom and accuracy with the Hereafter when crouching? I want that accuracy but boy oh boy that zoom lowers you FOV so darned much.
TLDR; Knives return to precision shot = kill in exchange for perk changes to halved cooldown or reduced, not instant. Tripmines should return to knock out the beefiest of Ramlocks- Oh...I forgot, this isn't the end of what I'm saying..but oh well, for another time...and maybe not ramlocks, after all the Warlocks clearly deserve a helmet which provides a universal armour buff rather than a Voidwalker specific one...hm, I'm going to start a rampage with that comment somewhere.
THE REAL TLDR; KNIVES REBUFF, CHANGE PERK TO HALVED COOLDOWN/ 10 SECOND/ SEVERELY REDUCED COOLDOWN....WHY AM I SHOUTING???
