So I took my 9mm and .357 (no need to disclose brand and style..... note: both firearms were standard length for their style. Neither were snub nose or extended) to an indoor firing range. I tested at 2 distances..... 10 yards and 25 yards. I fired three different rounds: 9mm (of course), .357, and .38 special.
At 10 yards..... the spread of all 3 were pretty accurate with slight raise to bullet landing. No bullets had a spray pattern to the side of my target.
At 25 yards..... I had the same result as long as I gave myself time to align my shot on all rounds.
I was using Winchester full jacket rounds for the 9mm and a bulk issued Remington FMJ for the 357 and 38 rounds.
I didn't experience "bloom" with any of my shots. The bullets went where I aimed. "Bloom" is an inaccurate result created to relate to a real life firearm. I can understand having sprayed bullets from free firing. But a lined up shot will hit its target at acceptable ranges when paced.
I did not attempt any shots beyond 25 yards because that's not logical for the firearms I was using. If the game is trying to be realistic with its bullet patterns, then they should make accuracy dependent on the user when inside acceptable ranges. "Ghost bullets" and "bloom" are illogical explanations for short range shots using a short range firearm.
My 9mm is not going to accurately hit its mark at 50 yards. But it's not going to miss its mark completely at 10 yards.
TL;DR::::: "Bloom" should not have an effect on hand canons at close range.

Well, my glock 17 can do 3in groups at 50 yards. 5 in groups on moving targets.
