Now, to start off i have not finished the game yet but i am about 6.5 hrs in already. I didnt go deep in researching the game before i got it but i did see a gameplay clip and the trailers. The game suprised me with how much they left out. In a GOOD way.
Lets begin
The game is much longer than you think it can be. I thought it would be a linear closed game but its a open world game. The world reminds me of when i saw a friend play one of the final fantasies. Open, traveling groups you can try to avoid lots of loot everywhere.
Dungeons are not part of the main story but they give you loot that you will definitely want and are unlocked either through collecting "prisim cores" or others with "corebots". Dungeons GREATLY extend the game time and are rewards for your exploration efforts. To give you a example; i have 11 prisim cores so far and there is a dungeon with a 75 core requirement to enter. I have found about 10 dungeons i have yet to explore excluding the story.
"But op what loot who cares about loot"
This was a feature i never saw in this game. YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE YOUR BOTS. Changing their looks as well as their bonuses. There are hp/energy/defense/rng stats for each bot that you can upgrade.
Examples of customization:
My k-9

My sp

^^ this is why you will seek dungeons to complete these sets if you need a reason other then completion purposes.
The combat so far is not stale for me yet and i binged. You will have multiple colors fighting so it keeps you on your toes as you switch. Multiple colored wolves in your face. Core retreival mechanic adds flavor to your shootouts. Once you master gun fu of combos though enemies become easier to kill so you lose out on cores here and there. But fortunately cores stealing and killing rewards you with their own type of loot and both are needed!!! Dont be afraid to kill!!
THE CONS
The game does have a long load (at times) and a day 1 patch for that would have been nice. There were also two times in rooms where visual textures did that strech through plane thing. Also... not that the game is hard and i rarely died... but be warned there are status effects and i have been comboed to death (like 100 hp to 0 in a second) i mean its fair. But once i got hit with so many snares my character stayed in a snared state until i fast traveled.
IN CONCLUSION
I believe this game is another case of critics going overboard. The game is great and i can tell even as i reach the later strech of the story, i have ALOT of bot unlocked materials to collect now and a number of dungeons to keep me playing past its supposed 8 hr run time. The game is visually stunning and every object you see you can climb on allowing me to bypass bot requirements at time. Reminds me of the great games back in the day just with a new polish. There is only a few issues but all can be rectified in a patch. All in all definitely worth my $40.
compared to every game: 7ish. Only because 8+ are reserved for single/multiplayer combo games except for witcher 3.
as a non AAA rpg shooter 10/10 more content than destiny vanilla maybe dlcs and just as smooth gameplay.
If anyone needs advice or tips i will reply in a spoiler :)
Edit: near the end is friggin lame. I understand its use and does hark back to olden times but still..

Have you been able to enter the "House of Steel" dungeon? I can't find the red battery :(
-
HUGE TIP I finally learned to core swap. In the equip screen if you press X you can swap color cores with bodies. Giving you new lethals!! Just put MACKs core into seth and now seth has a lazer sweep :)
-
Can i just say duncan's orek(or oak) sets look nasty. What a waste of parts. On the bright side i learned in the stash you can combine or grind down parts to get the items you need
-
I'm liking it so far, it's a great medium grade game. That said....wtf is the vibrations I keep feeling as I walk through the first dungeon? I keep feeling like it's telling me there is something around but, there's never anything I can find.

Edited by ObamaBinLaden: 9/14/2016 4:58:49 PMplenty of single player only games have gotten higher than an 8 or 9. some multiplayer only games have too. limiting a review score because the game is made for one or the other makes no sense
Only because 8+ are reserved for single/multiplayer combo games except for witcher 3.
To keep a game's score low because it doesn't have multiplayer is pretty moronic. What about what it does have? What if it were never designed as an MP game? Some of the finest games ever made (Half-Life, Ocarina of Time, BioShock, Riven) don't have multiplayer. I'm in the UK, so my copy will arrive in the next few days. That said, I got an email that it's been dispatched first class as of this morning, so I should have it tomorrow.

Wow this game sounds better than most of the $60 games
-
Definitely worth the price imo. I really like it so far.
-
Is this one of those games that you buy on Xbox and you get it for PC as well?
-
Just picked up my copy at gamestop. I can't wait to pop it in and play!
-
FPS or Na?
-
Seems alright. I'll have to wait for a sale
-
As I'm having a pretty bad case of sequel fatigue right now, I picked this up yesterday. I'm enjoying my time with it so far.

Edited by brandorobot: 9/14/2016 2:15:59 PMI watched like 5 minutes of someone streaming it and it seemed open world 3D platformy. Which isn't a bad thing. I'm sure it's fun.

Any tips for capturing orbs? I seem to break the line more than not. Sometimes they come out easy, other times it seems practically impossible.

Pretty much sums up my experience so far after 3 hours. I believe critics are being far too harsh on it right now, treating it as if it were a $60 game. The few major flaws I see in it can be excused given said price point. It is still absolutely filled with quality, and for a completioniat like myself I can see myself putting an easy 60+ hours in it.
-
I got to say for a 40$ game it's pretty stop on. I'm loving t so far. Feels new yet very much retro in a way. The game is no budget title it's a huge game huge . I'm a few hours in and I'm really liking it. It's fresh in a retro sorta way. Pretty neat. !! I would recommend.
-
Sounds pretty good
-
Thanks for that, and,,,, thank you for no spoilers.

I completely agree. This game is awesome and is soooo much more than I expected. I actually find it difficult to believe that it wasn't $60 USD. I was looking for a zen game with lots of content. I am very pleased =)

Please let me know when you finish the game, and how much time you need to explore extra areas. I love collecting everything in games, is it like metroid where you have to go back to certain areas to get better things? I've heard complaints about the combat beginning annoying, and the battles don't become any different. Is this true? I've had high hopes for this game, but the negative reviews do seem to really damper with my spending money.
-
Just a question regarding the combat. When shooting an enemy does the game just snap from enemy to enemy and you cycle through your colors to match the right one? I believe I've heard there is an option to turn the aim assistance off but will that make the game way too hard and detract from the experience?
-
I too am enjoying it. I don't understand the extremely negative reviews because I'm having a blast (despite being stun locked by k-9's). Its reminiscent of old school platformers and I'd something different that I find refreshing. I haven't seen to many bugs except Max walking through walls and objects as well as some lengthy load times.
-
Still better than No Man's Sky
-
I didn't know it was open world. Do you know if it's going to pull a Fallout 3 and completely end your progress after beating it? Or does it keep on going? Because I'm already wanting to buy it and if I can keep progressing after the story, I will be completely sold.

It's also locked into 30 fps on xbox one. I was hoping for 60 fps, but I can work with 30.
