Hello and welcome to Version 2 on my statistics on Three of Coins. Here is a fact sheet of my luck with my Three of Coins between Strikes as well as Crucible games. This takes place at the Launch of Rise of Iron.
Legend:
AxD: B (C)
A- Number of Coins used consecutively
D- Number of tmes I used that amount of Three of Coins
B- Number of Exotic Engrams dropped
C- Chance of getting an Exotic Engram
Type of Exotic. They are as follows:
P: Primary Weapon
S: Secondary Weapon
H: Heavy Weapon
h: Helmet
G: Gauntlets
C: Chest Armor
L: Leg Armor
Remember:
Number of Coins used consecutively x Number of times I used that many coins: Total number of Exotic Engrams dropped on that coin (percent chance of getting an Exotic Engram)
Just ignore the Subclass and Asterik with the number. Kudos to those who can guess what they mean.
Note: Their are some occasional errors in here. Eventually I catch them and fix them right up.
Tips:
1. Use one at a time max per Ultra kill or Crucible game. Doesn't matter how much time has passed between coins in my findings. A cool down timer shouldn't affect RNG.
2. Try to stay on the same character during a coin run. You have a better chance of getting an Exotic on a character who has been on a dry streak than a character who didn't use one at all or just recently got an Exotic from a Three of Coin.
3. Do NOT expect any Exotics from these Ultras: Atheon, Templar, Crota, Omnigul, Psion Flayers, Aksis, or Fused or Enhanced Ultras, or Perfected Vandals encountered in Archon's Forge. Your coin will not activate, but you'll still have the buff. Exotic Engrams will also not drop in Private Matches.
4. There are some instances where you'll still have an Exotic Particles buff even after a Crucible match. This usually happens when you load in when the game almost ends and you don't get a kill but could happen anytime. Check your character screen to make sure you don't have it before using another one.
5. There are missions such as [url=http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Last_Rites]Last Rites[/url] where Ultras are defeated (wiped by the game rather than vanish) when you teleport or escape. As long as you shoot them before this happens, you have a chance for an Exotic drop. In this case your Exotic Particles Buff will go away and any Engram(s) will go to the Postmaster.

2 Repliesso i have 91 three of coins i just bought from xur. i pop 1 three of coin every heroic strikes except for omnigul, & psion flayers on my 7th use of three of coins i finally get exotic helmet engram. now i have 84 three of coins left would that be my first set? for example 1st Set of Three of Coins: 7 helmet

If there was a cooldown, then the faster you use the coins, the less exotics you get. But most of the time, I can grind strikes over a few days and get a drop after 15 coins, yet play Crucible and get a drop after every 4 to 6 coins. Sometimes I get 2 back to back. I guess the only way to prove or disprove a cooldown (as well as find what that time is) is to do this. Have 100 coins. Pop one then defeat an Ultra in one minute, exactly every minute. Record how many exotics drop and that will be your percentage. Then have 100 coins, and use one every 2 minutes. Then 3, then 4 and so on. If there is a cooldown, the chance of an exotic should increase the longer the gap between coins. As soon as the chances become even (ie using a coin every 7 minutes has about the same odds as using it every 8, 9, or 10 minutes) that will be the cooldown. Any volunteers? If I do this, I'm gonna have to make room in my Vault and hope my Internet doesn't cut out. Let's see: 20 or so weapons slots and 20 or so armor slots. I'd say 40 or so each just to be safe. Any excess Engrams may have to be sent to the postmaster, or worse...

Please understand I am not looking to discredit your belief in any way whatsoever, I am just looking for clarity and understanding of the matter, just like you. But saying that there is no cooldown timer because it's RNG is not an explanation, and seems wrong to me. Can you please shed some light on this topic? Here's an example of how a cooldown timer on 3oC can affect the exotic drop rate RNG. Let's say the usual, Sans-3oC odds of getting an exotic are 2%, so 2 out of 100 of the RNG roll will give you an exotic. Now let's say the 3oC makes those odds 25%, so 25 out of 100 of the RNG roll will give you an exotic. Now let's say there is a cooldown, and a subsequent rapid use of a 3oC only makes those odds 10%, so 10 out of 100 of the RNG roll will give you an exotic. And another subsequent use of 3oC makes those odds 5%, so 5 out of 100, and each new 3oC used only gives you 5%, until the cooldown has passed, at which point the next 3oC gives you another odds of 25%, so 25 out of 100 drop chance. That's an example of how a "cooldown timer" on the 3oC can affect the RNG. Care to explain your point of view?
