Name: Aaron Sawyer
Other alias/nickname: Paladin Sawyer, the Young Paladin, Veration
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Allegiance: The Arrowhead Smugglers
Appearance -
Tall, extremely muscular. Eyes the color of ice. Scarred face, light beard, shaggy black hair. Strong chin. Handsome.
Abilities -
A great swordsman and hunter. Is very adept in survival skills. Knowing anatomy inside out, which makes him even more skilled with the sword.
His powers have yet to reach a limit in possibly, however, they are only limited by his will. Sawyer uses his own life force to power his magic. Therefore, simple combat may give him a cold or headache; truly powerful Magic casted will cause great injury or immediate death. Simple magic counts as telekinetic power or elemental manipulation.
After the Hermes raid Sawyer has acquired a surgery which bolstered iron into his skin to make him able to withstand more blunt damage and firearms less penetrative. In fact, all conventional rounds do nothing to him..
Weaknesses:
Due to a very traumatic past, mention of his killed friends from the WOD, his wife and his wartime as a child can cause horrible outbursts of PTSD. He may be strong, but is mentally weak and easily manipulated.
Though skilled with the sword and understanding of how to cripple, Sawyer has spent the majority of his time with a rifle in his hands. Stronger swordsman will be able to outclass Sawyer.
Strengths -
Sawyer is extremely strong and a master swordsman, having used the broadsword, his blade of choice, his whole life. He's so strong he can even hold a broadsword in one hand and be formidable, but prefers two hands for increased precision. Sawyer can easily see through lies and is an expert judge of character.
Gear -
His trusty custom broadsword, Veritan, named after his mountainous hometown on Prillion. Its blade honed to a very fine edge and leather-bound hilt meant to perfect accommodate his grip makes Sawyer able to flow in the ebb of combat with precision cuts that can kill a man with only a simple slash.
Sawyer has increased his arsenal since his disappearance; he has gained a multitude of guns, including his trusty duel sidearms, Silverjaw and Deufor, named after two of his most trusted associates on his adventures. Both fire large sums of voltage out of their barrels which expands over the target and causes them horrible pain as their entire body cramps in agony. They are non-lethal, as well as weakening weapons, but both are useless against armor.
In addition to this is a bull-barreled .44 S&W Magnum Revolver, a relic of Earth long forgotten that he won in a card game, named after his mentor in the Paladin Order and Kalishar's criminal Visir, Arakian. It provides tremendous stopping power and is used for duels or execution, as Sawyer is not the best sharpshooter.
And finally, his most nifty tool; the Black Hand, an inch glove made of fine leather that allows Sawyer to use his most basic powers, such as moving small objects or casting an ember on his fingertip to light a fire without taking away from his own life force.
Personality -
Sawyer is a confident, happy and quite brave, and overall a very well-mannered man. He treats his friends and comrades alike with extreme respect, and would follow them to Hell and back. Though a great person, Sawyer is also a hothead and carries burden due to a dark past.
Backstory -
Sawyer was born on the small planet of Prillion, in a well-hidden and unseen solar system due to a magic shield by the Mage Order, the natural inhabitants of Prillion who wield powerful magic called Hellwind which can be applied in an infinite number of ways. Sawyer was said in prophecy to bring order to the Mage Civil War started by a rogue protector of the Queen Mage, Ćaliñe, who had an affair with the queen, causing great turmoil in the Kingdom of Prillion. He was raised by the fabled Paladin Order, a prestigious and rigorous group dedicated to making Paladins, people of immense magical power who dedicate their lives to aiding the people of Prillion. Sawyer was one of these, and was the most powerful Mage to grace Prillion in eons, soon fabled and heralded. After the arrival of an alien called the Man and his beginning of a vicious holy crusade against the Mages using their brethren infused with an immaterial substance called Essence of Darkness, creating Corrupted Mages. A resistance force against the Man was created called SOTW (Special Operatives Trained in Warfare) and Sawyer was their warhorse at just age 8, destroying 12 chapters of the Man's army. Later, in his mid 20's as the war rages on and the Man releases a doomsday automaton named the WOD, or Weapon Of Destruction, which Sawyer is COMMISSIONED to destroy in a desolate and war-ravaged area of Prillion with his comrades from the SOTW, Bard, Equinox, Cane, Crow and himself. His friends were all killed, and just by the grit of his teeth Sawyer destroyed the WOD, hailed as a war hero and going into retirement with his wife, Lavernia. They had a large family and all was well, until she was killed by a stray Corrupted Mage, and his children disappeared after his wife's death. Sawyer joined back into the SOTW until Prillion was destroyed by The Man's alien race, the Atea, a gargantuan force spanning dimensions all controlled by a Hive Mind. After many intergalactic adventures and brushes with death, and a disappearance after he was tricked by an old enemy and left for dead on an armpit planet, Sawyer has returned back to Union airspace and as a Hermes member, and a part-time gunslinger with the Arrowhead crew.
Quirks/Trivia -
-Sawyer's official codename with the SOTW was Veration, a name chosen by him. It was also what he was referred to by surperiors, instead of just grunts of "Sawyer" or "Paladin." The reason why he chose this name, however, or its meaning, is unknown.
-Though having immunity to the adverse effects of tobacco due to his anatomy as a Mage, Sawyer prefers fat cigars for their rich and smoky aftertaste.
-Despite swearing by the Paladin's Code, a blood oath taken on the first day of a rookie newly inducted into the elite Paladin Order, Sawyer has broken his oath many times. Some of which was when he took drugs so his mission wouldn't be compromised when he tracked a terrorist through a rave, or when he killed a child soldier that was he jeopardizing the life of Sawyer's comrades and career during the infamous Second Civil War of Voc Septem. After the perishing of the Paladin Order and almost all of its members, Sawyer found the code to be something he always tried to live by, but would break if absolutely necessary.
-Contrary to what one might believe, although Sawyer's a skilled swordsman, his true calling lies with automatic machine guns, due to his use of them since he was just a sprite. Give him a sturdy AR and he'll clear house. Sawyer's swordplay only started as a hobby and a trait he wanted to pick up, but due to the high cost of living in Coalition airspace, his verdict was that the use of assault rifles were too costly after the destruction of Prillion. Sawyer then made swordsmanship his main form of defense.
-Sawyer loves classical music. Despite being revered among the remnants of the Mage Guild as a heroic fighter and the sole warrior who turned the tides of the fierce conflict against the leper messiah The Man and his propaganda army, Sawyer's own parents were not nobles or combatants, but rather humble and impoverished musicians. This is why he constantly looks for native instruments to every race he can find; he brings them to the graves of his mother and father and adds them to the shrine he has been cultivating for years.
-Sawyer is learning to play the aerondike, a traditional musical device quite similar to Old Earth's harmonica, capable of playing music with using the breezes and changing winds working together with whistle blows to make exquisite sounds. Master players of the aerondike are capable of reaching sounds that humanoid ears were never supposed to be able to hear, or tug at the heartstrings of even the most malicious men and women. Sawyer's mother, Jillian, was among one of these experts. Sawyer isn't quite as good as his lineage presented but he continues to practice every day.
-The Paladin grew up along tales of chivalry, honor, and also barbarism and the cost of mindless destruction. These morally-fueled stories of knights of old, warriors and fierce protectors of the human spirit, are what led him to a life in the military, and eventually one alongside the Paladin Order.
