Stian was shocked at this reveal to say the least. But his confusion was short lived as he focused on the task at hand.
Regardless of their gender, Merlin was not fooling around. She knew this was forbidden magic, and Stian was willing to bet that she wasn't going to let it slide easily.
"Keep your distance! I don't care if you're a man, woman, or tiger."
Stian floods the runes on his arms once again.
"I have to finish this spell. You don't understand what this is all for. No power, no glory, no wealth. None of it. I don't care. I just want one chance to reverse the wrong I did. Is one chance too much to ask?"
Stian was lost in thought for a second before sighing.
"I guess it is to those that make our laws... But I don't care! Have them kill me! Have them burn me alive! Have them banish me! Do what you will, just let me finish this. I ask, I beg for one chance"

She floats over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "One single attempt. If you fail, which you most likely will due to its difficulty, I will turn you in."

Stian stopped charging his runes and gapped his mouth a little. "I-I'm sorry? You're giving me a chance to do this?" In an instant, his confusion turned to gratitude. "Thank you... Merlin, right? I have no words. I owe you a knight's favor" He was not one to lose himself. He turned back towards the circle and sat patiently. He checked an old watch and saw the spell was minutes from starting.

"If you need anything, I will be here."

Less lives to lose" Stian was dead set on the circle. It slowly seemed to deepen as the time drew closer. Almost like the blood was eating the earth, trying to spread its influence. In the moments before the strike of a 6 year anniversary, Stian touched two fingers in the outermost ring of the circle and spoke. "Toisich" At the command the blood glowed a luminous blue. As it spread, it adopted different colors at each of the magical artifacts. A heavy blue at the Nordic runes, a bright purple at the Haitian voduo, energetic red at the Japanese Kotodama, a blinding white at the Christian High Magic, and a subdued gold at the Egyptian Heka.

Stian copied complex symbols from his book in front of him. He used his exposed forearms as middlemen to manage the flow of mana. He touched the glowing blood once again and spoke. "a ghabhail nan tairgsean seo agus a 'sealltainn dhomh an fheadhainn a bhruidhneas mi" After that he carved 4 names in the ground in various languages. They all corresponded with the types of magics he used. Except Nordic. "Jameson. Akira. Catherine. Nubia." The circle seemed to respond and writing in a much older language than any he wrote down appeared in front of him. He scrolled through the pages and began to translate the ancient writing

Stian finished and his look went from frantic to grim. It was the exchange. In order to actually initiate the spell, an equal cost had to be made. Usually it consisted of human or animal sacrifice but the toll was not that high in this case. He reached into his shirt and retrieved a small chain. On it were four scraps of cloth. It seemed like little but each of those scraps had countless lives packed into them. Long dead souls that would gain no rest as long as they remained. It was the most common types of currency that these spells dealt with. Stian walked to the center, careful not to distort the writing. He placed the scraps at the center where they seemed to vanish in the air. Stian waited for what seemed like an eternity when the glowing ceased and the circle lay quiet. The stillness was only broken when Stian's body hit the ground and he lay still.
