looking at Destiny 1 lack of inventory space and lack of stuff to do in all DLC because people carry over their guardians / weapons I can honestly think they will reset but not to worry they will let you keep your character appearance / choice of class
other choice is Nerf year 2 items to the point were you dismantle them yourself,
sub-classes will be nerfed to the point that you have to choose new destiny 2 OP classes

year 2 items will be meaningless within 2 weeks anyway, and do not believe you'll move on into Destiny 2 with the current gear, it's been said over and over that it's a whole new game with new gear and new systems.

Y2 stuff will be infusable to Y3 levels. Stuff isn't being left behind this time.
