The writers at Forbes are idiots to suggest it.
If you're going to make us start over then you need to drop the ranking up and progression completely and turn this into a Halo type experience.
If we're going to grind, progress and build our guardians over multiple paid expansions then you need to let us continue with our Guardians we're investing all this time into.
Honestly the fact that these writers at Forbes are suggesting a reset is complete crap. If you want a fresh start you can delete and make a new Guardian any time you want. Don't force that bs on others who are invested in their Guardians.
Thank-you

I say they let us import our guardians to destiny 2 but all the weapons and armour will be left behind. Which will upset a lot of people but sorry they need to get over it, too many people in community live in past and don't accept or give year two a chance.
-
If they even dared consider this then I'm done. Without any hesitation
-
It is bs. My Guardian is supposed to be getting more powerful over time. Our characters and progress need to be respected.
-
No way could they be stupid enough to do some kind of reset. If that is the case we might finally have found the game to kill Destiny...........Destiny.

I see both points in this argument. As someone who invested a bunch of time into Destiny early, and took a break until recently, jumping back in can be a bit cluttered. There are many locations of many vendors and only the new ones get any real focus. I can only imagine what someone who wants to join the game at Year 3 would go through. I also think that the dedication of those that put in many hard hours should not be disregarded. There should be a way to cater to both of these audiences/consumers. My suggestion would be to fast-track the new players in a way that introduces them to the vendors amongst the regions of the game and brings them up to level. The spark of light is nice for level gain i suppose (never used it) but it wouldn't help with the orientation of a new guardian to the community. They should also have more favorable rewards for being a mentor to new players. Similar to the shader that they offered. But a shader is not adequate to spending valuable time helping a stranger with no result on gameplay. Not to mention the armor is already to horrendous that a shaders in this game mean almost nothing. (dont comment on this point, it was only made to emphasize how meaningless the reward is for assisting new players) For current players, Bungie needs to create an easier way to store old gear and/or trash it. Maybe this exists but I am not aware of it, but you should be able to dismantle gear from the vault without having to take it out. That extra step is so pointless. Maybe create a separate space in the tower or vault for a "Trophy" room. Where old gear that you cant use but want to collect is displayed, maybe cast in gold, or even a metal of your choosing. That frees up space in the vault, and guess what, you could have grimoire in your trophy case to view as well. Two birds, one stone. Hell, even mounted heads of enemies you have defeated. Gotta catch 'em all? Okay I'm starting to ramble. Good day

OP, I'm with you. I think everyone should spam the forums with this. Sure it's a rumor and it was on Forbes, but still not going to take any chances. If this happens, not only will I not continue or buy any further content, straight up selling them. Going into this as a 10-year progression project? HA! Fix actual issues first.
-
Just finished listening to that podcast and the Bungie team was asked about this specifically. While they couldn't commit to the 10 year plan, they did say they also felt it was important to respect the players long dedication in their characters, and that they agree this should be maintained. So I highly doubt they would make us restart. Especially with all the effort they are putting into these Kiosks for weapons and other stuff we accumulated.

The most fun I had in this game was playing the campaign. Starting fresh and learning all of the subclass perks, leveling up, and going from white gear, to green, to blue, to purple, amd then to exotic. End game content, to me, was just too repetitive. Especially now that we have to deal with this triple rng bullshit. If our guardians are coming into D2....with all skills, subclasses, and weapns....how do you propose they keep things new and fresh? Making a bunch of new subclasses would over saturate the game, wouldn't it? I'm of the opinion that a fresh start is sorely needed. D1 and it's expansions were a complete train wreck at times amd I'm sure Bunjivision wants everyone to forget what a sad story this game ended up being.... Let's reset, learn from our (Bunjivision's) mistakes, and make D2 CLOSE to what D1 should have have been.... This is coming from a y1 snob who is pissed and confused as to why the VoG, and all my y1 gear and activities are useless. D1 will always be remembered for the mismanaged, hot mess that it became. Let's not bring any of it to D2, pls.

Not buying it. We've asked for YEARS to stop PVP nerfs hitting PVE. Never listened once. Bye 😊

Keep our level and subclasses. Give us 3 new subclasses and go from level 40 to level 80 then build on whatever light level we will be at the time

The Destiny 1 exotics should all go forward into Destiny 2. However, you should only be able to use them if you owned them in Destiny 1. That's a cool way to connect the games between each other. By no means do I expect legendary items to be shared or stay the same. Speaking of Destiny 2, it should have its own massive set of new exotics, so newer players shouldn't feel too bad. If anything this will keep Destiny 1 alive even after 2 comes out, for hardcore collectors.

I saw the Forbes Article you referenced. I think its the wrong move to make us restart from square 1 too. However, you can make an argument that it might be better for the game long-term if they made us restart from square 1. I'll preface this argument by making it clear that I am assuming that nothing from Y1-3 will carry forward into D2. We don't know if this will be the case or not at this point, and Bungie has been very tight-lipped bout D2 information. HOWEVER, if this assumption turns out to be true, then maybe it is not such a bad thing to restart from square 1. Doing so would allow Bungie to start over on what is virtually a clean slate as far as weapons balancing and class balancing goes. There would be no weapons in the game at that point that would be considered "gamebreaking" such as Icebreaker was during Trials at the start of TTK. So they would have a little more freedom to remold the world and "fix" things they thought were errors without having to worry about how legacy guns will impact current gameplay. Also, starting fresh and clean ends the debate about whether Y1/Y2 gear, etc. should be moved forward, and it could possibly put an end to the debate on whether elemental primaries should be a thing (one way or another). They can decide elemental primaries should be a thing and make them a permanent thing (and hopefully do it right) or they can decide they had it right all along during TTK. Either way, starting fresh in D2 allows them a clean slate which they can use to provide more consistency on these hot button issues. Let me make it clear. I AM NOT advocating to restart from square 1 at the start of D2. I am merely saying that doing so may allow Bungie more freedom to adjust weapons balance without having to worry about certain weapons which could be problematic because they break all the rules. It would also allow them to push the reset button on certain issues and allow them to establish a more consistent record regarding how gear will progress moving forward. Overall, I don't think it is the right thing to do to start over at square 1. AT MINIMUM, certain things we have MUST carry forward with us 10 years. Emblems and ships, other cosmetics, at MINIMUM, should always be with us. We earned them. And cosmetics do not impact gameplay in any fashion or form. So there is clearly no argument for leaving them behind. Honestly, I hope that they find a way to make this game have more exclusives. Items you could only obtain in a certain era. Not just emblems, ships, shaders, etc. but also weapons. After all, thats what having a LEGENDARY gun is all about. Its an incredibly powerful gun that was used to accomplish incredible things. They should be available on a limited time basis only. Otherwise, future weapons of similar archetypes are just going to be meaningless reskins. But imagine if a Hung Jury or Treads was only obtainable during TTK? Even if other future archetypes are reskins, the name alone shows that you obtained it during an exclusive period and NOBODY who did not play during that period could have one.

I'm hoping that Bungie does stick to their core on this and that with their long term plan, allow us to keep our Guardians for the long haul. As already stated by you Sols, we can delete and re-create a Guardian at any time. Of course, there are those of us, many of us actually, who have had our first character since we started playing. I don't plan on deleting my Hunter main any time soon and I most definitely want to see what he will become in the years ahead. I do believe that Bungie will stick to this path and allows us to keep our Guardians. Games like World of Warcraft, and even Mass Effect have done this. Mass Effect, in the sense that if you have played the previous games you were able to import your saved game data into the current new game. It's not hard to do. And my last question, why the hell is Forbes doing anything video game related?
-
I definitely don't want to start from scratch, but if I've learned anything from Bungie, it's to not get my hopes up. If we end up starting over, that would be a bummer but It will still be fun to play and find the new gear. I wouldn't put much stock in those writers at Forbes, they're just giving their opinion. I don't imagine Bungie will look to them for guidance as to how to develop their game.
-
That sounds ludicrous. What's the point in putting hundreds (if not thousands, for some players) of hours into your characters if they're only going to get scrapped every 2-3 years? There'd be no point in growing any attachment to any of your characters, no use in trying to master any subclasses for the long run. I'd sooner latch onto my GTA V Online character.
-
Only thing that will go forward are the endless nerfs
-
If they can tell a good story and let us bring along our current Guardians, I would like that to be the case. If they need to do start with a fresh canvas to tell the story they want to tell with Destiny 2, I would be fine with that, too.
-
By this do you mean the next game we start out with everything we have right now? Including our level, armor, faction rep levels, cryptarch rank, etc etc etc?
-
Generally a reset is how most sequels go. The story may continue but characters don't... in terms of progression that is. Otherwise why would anyone new want to play? That's where the money is.
-
D2 will be a casual game.
-
I'm really projecting that it's going to be more of a game-changing mass expansion than anything. Retool the progression system to be different than the current light level system and convert everything over to the new way of doing things. Those that upgrade get to keep everything, those that don't stay on either the old systems or a limited version of the new one. someone else suggested it would be a lot like TTK; I think this is spot on, and TTK might have served as a proof of concept for that.
-
I imagine that D2 will be like a second Taken King with how stuff is handled.
