The writers at Forbes are idiots to suggest it.
If you're going to make us start over then you need to drop the ranking up and progression completely and turn this into a Halo type experience.
If we're going to grind, progress and build our guardians over multiple paid expansions then you need to let us continue with our Guardians we're investing all this time into.
Honestly the fact that these writers at Forbes are suggesting a reset is complete crap. If you want a fresh start you can delete and make a new Guardian any time you want. Don't force that bs on others who are invested in their Guardians.
Thank-you

who cares if they do its their game and what if you only bought D2 your 4/5 years behind everyone else sounds fair all right

Like others I see both sides. I know this doesn't sit well on this forum but ultimately Bungie is a commercial organisation and there is only so much content they can dilute to attract new players. If Destiny 2 is a new 2/ 3 year lifespan game like now, then a fresh start would be the logical thing. I would like some carry over of grim score (not that mine is up to much) or possibly a light level boost for Destiny 1 players or incentive of some kind though. Personally, a game with the dlc options we have had with version 1 and a fresh start , is not something that has me wanting to break my disc though. Like others , splinters in awkward places.

Agree 100%. Seems to me that a lot (not all) of people who want a hard reset, want people who have collected things and spent too much time with the game to feel salty and/or would be the least effected by it. This group may also include players who are new(er) to the game and are upset by people who have played for a long time having more resources than them and they are jealous so they want those players resources to be reset. The other group that i think is likely to want a hard reset is the group that plays the game like its their job (i.e. many streamers) and wouldn't be affected by a hard reset. This group will quickly get to where they were before whereas people who have slowly accumulated resources over a long period of time will find it much much more difficult. The most likely to want a hard reset are people who both play the game like its their job and are also somewhat new to the game (they both wouldn't be affected much and would be most quickly ahead of everyone else). The problem with a hard reset in an investment game is that youre making previous investment worthless. This could cause a lot of people who have invested a significant amount into the game but don't have a significant amount of time on a weekly basis to feel like their efforts were wasted and make them not want to play anymore.

looks like there is a split in the community over whether Destiny 2 should carry through D1 characters or not. I can see the arguments from both sides. Personally i wouldn't mind starting again, but i also don't want to lose my present characters. Where is that fence?
-
Isn't Destiny 2 just going to be a large dlc? It won't make sense to wipe all our progress and then sell us the game again using the same assets; tower, reef etc; with a few new planets/areas added on. They can't be that stupid.

Here is where I see things and would like to see with Destiny 2. Instead of everything unlocking by just playing and then letting us choose what we want out of those, they should instead go with a little more open ended progression where we choose what abilities we want to unlock on our weapons, armor, and subclasses. There are so many things on current sub-classes I rarely use or never use but it took so long to just get through them. If they could change the way we upgrade things too give us more choice then they're could be a good story reason why we may have to start fresh. Or at the very least let us keep our characters but have something happen story wise that causes us to be de-powered. What if we could also mix abilities and have one super subclass. Also let us choose which element we can use on the fly or put it behind some kind of wait time between switching. They're can be many great things they can do going forward but I at the very least want the same Hunter I have always had. I won't mind having to re earn things though. But would like acknowledgment of what I have done in the past.

Personally I hope we start fresh with destiny 2 level 1 no guns and just like the beginning on destiny because this game has screwed everything up a fresh start is very needed. Besides even if we carry over everything we have will be obsolete compared to the new stuff anyway and with a level increase we will still feel like level 1 against adds with our old gear. Destiny should be called what it is a 3 year beta test. Now let's all start fresh on next gen only and see if they can finally start getting things right

The author of that article of Forbes writes clickbait. If you see it's about Destiny and written by him then don't bother clicking on it. He tries so hard to lure people into articles that bring you to his little world.

The best plan for Destiny at this point would be to bring in Blizzard or hand them the game and have them make it a full blown MMO with tons of content to play. My dream game would actually be something like WOW in terms of world size and content, but with guns. That's what I originally thought Destiny would be, not a shared world looter shooter. Destiny should just go the MMO route with more content added each year and the "new" games just being larger expansions, just like most MMOs do it.

Please delete everything. Give me new character options and new classes!
-
The only way I would want this is if they end this current story line and begin again. In Mass Effect, we followed Shepherd through three games, but now that he's dead, it's time to begin again. That makes sense. If Destiny reset, it would need a completely new slate of character classes, location, and I would even suggest move it down the road a century or so. Things will need to have evolved. Transversely, it could be set as a prequel in the time of the great war. What Bungie could not do is simply wipe the board clean and repeat the same story. Nope, that would never do.
-
If they actually do this, I'll be disappointed. I want to bring my main warlock back after 9 years of the 'changes' bungie has made.
-
Hell -blam!-ing yes! BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP Now that we have to do ANOTHER Thorn strike, nothing surprises me.
-
A full reset wouldn't make sense. Each DLC is already a kinda reset, all your weapons / armors become almost useless.
-
I still love this game after 3k hours played. I've played other games during my time on destiny but always got back to the grind. I've accepted that my Vision of Confluence is not coming back, barley accepted I might add. But, I WILL NOT accept bungie killing of all of my characters. Some of you might see a fresh start as a fresh breeze and a chance to some stuff differently, not me though. If anything, bungie should make a public poll about this matter, sooner then later, then at least I got a chance to keep my characters. Puss&porr ya'll!
-
Well, since we are now coming out of beta it would make sense.
-
Bungie explicitly said they aren't going to do this. MMO-ish gameplay like Destiny naturally regulates this type of debacle. By adding new classes, the gamer is able to re-play through the game, old and new, in its entirety. The old toons get to start from where the previous expansion left off, and play through the content as soon as the new expansion launches. And it's not "writers at Forbes." Eric Kain, the guy that wrote that article, is a hipper-than-thou dum bass, like %99 of all internet "video game critics." He doesn't know what he's talking about, and he's not even they're regular Destiny writer. Thankfully, Bungie doesn't spend millions of dollars developing games based on his opinion.

I'm reading a bunch of "I want to keep my character" or "I want to start fresh". Here's a mindblowing concept: Let us choose. Let it be a choice, and everyone can be happy. You wanna bring your character with you? Go for it. You want a brand new character? Make a new character. Don't try to be one of those "No, my choice is more important than your's" people. I'm from the midwest; I deal with enough of those people.
-
Current infrastructure can't handle it, it's obvious. You suggest they put a whole new load of clients on top of it? Contacting D2 servers...
-
I dont give a crap about my character just let me keep my doctrine of passing.
-
I would hate it if I lost my characters and gear I worked so hard to get, but I really think they'll leave our characters behind with destiny 2 and I'm gonna be pissed
-
-
I want a full reset, I want a totally new experience.
-
i'm honestly ok with a full reset. and I've put 2500 hours in this game (wastedondestiny.com)

Edited by TheShadow: 9/2/2016 12:47:27 AMAsking Bungie not to do something is actually telling them to do it lol. When will people ever going to get a clue. Bungie's game is nothing but a rinse and repeat. I love your post lmao

I'd deal with with effectively being reset so long as their is some tangible homage to past achievements and the reset is so that an improved progression system could be implemented. I'm not saying that it is my preference by any means but I don't think it would be a bad thing for the game as a whole.
