The writers at Forbes are idiots to suggest it.
If you're going to make us start over then you need to drop the ranking up and progression completely and turn this into a Halo type experience.
If we're going to grind, progress and build our guardians over multiple paid expansions then you need to let us continue with our Guardians we're investing all this time into.
Honestly the fact that these writers at Forbes are suggesting a reset is complete crap. If you want a fresh start you can delete and make a new Guardian any time you want. Don't force that bs on others who are invested in their Guardians.
Thank-you

I 100% agree. If we are made to start all over again for destiny 2 I won't be getting it, I will be drawing the line and saying bye to destiny if that becomes the case

Think about this: D2 will require some method for a new player to be able to purchase the game and create a character and play through the game without having to own D1. Players who want a new experience can use this route to start fresh. I expect that what will happen will be a new Tower opening up. That we will arrive at the new Tower either as new Guardians or as our current Guardians, stripped of inventory... Some introductory event will render us newbs. Veteran guardians might have a side quest that allows them to investigate the first spawn location - which will allow them to regain their old inventory and open up access back to the original tower and their old vaults... What I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be black and white. There are ways that they could preserve our inventory whilst at least temporarily separating us from it - or even allowing players to make a clean break. I personally think that it would be interesting to land on another tower and discover that the one we are familiar with only covers one section of the wall. That The Speaker isn't actually the leader of the entire city but that there are other groups and hierarchies out there who have their own versions of history. Maybe with leaders who could and do tell us stories.

if we had to restart all over with a new guardian then the 3 years I have played destiny would come to an end. the curse will be lifted I will feel sad though
-
Do you have the link to the Forbes article? Did they suggest it or were they just brainstorming what Bungie could do with D2?

I would kind of like to continue building my guardian. This game has gotten very stale. It plays excellently, but doesn't do anymore than be a shooter with RNG. I still wish the game was much more expansive and varied. A good example of this would be a weapon class, let's take auto rifles for instance. Divide those into three archetypes and then make those into 20 different guns that all look the same. Can I get something that is different? The problem with Destiny and being reset would be like Master Chief in Halo having to play Halo: CE 10 times over just to be able to have the armor and weapons to play the game once as it actually was intended. I'm fine with paying more for more variety and I also enjoy some of the RNG mystery, but I still feel that if I'm reset at Destiny 2, then I'll feel that I've been playing a free beta (Destiny 1 which I feel never left beta) that I've been duped into paying for. So, I feel that if it adds to the game like adding another sub-class that I have to rank up I would accept, but a hard reset would definitely turn me away from this franchise for good.

I totally agree with you, gear and level nullification is one of the things that has been the bane of many an MMO player and is my opinion why most MMO's end up being hugely popular for a short time then starting to die off until a new generation of players spark interest again. Those dedicated players of MMO's get tired of building, restart, repeat. In truth, I came very close to giving up on Destiny; in my opinion the infusion concept was a stroke of genius. Some will argue that half the challenge is leveling up and my response to that is, "Delete one of your existing characters and start over again." As for me, I like my characters and don't want to go through the effort of building them back up again. For hardcore gamers, I understand building a character up is not that lengthy of a process, for the casual gamer it is. I have several friends that love Destiny, are year one day one players; but because their schedules only allow a little bit of play here and there they still have not reached the current light cap of 335.

If they don't allow us to bring forward weapons and gear (which I'm sure they won't) I honestly don't care if I have to start new characters. In fact I would welcome having a fresh start with tons to do. I actually don't even understand why someone would want to buy a whole new game and just use old characters. It's not like our guardians have personality, everyone looks basically the same, wears 1 of 4 sets of gear and uses the same weapons. If this is more about losing pvp stats I don't get that either. It wouldn't be the same game. It's a sequel not a add on.

Edited by BIGFOOTofD00M: 9/3/2016 11:16:05 AMLet me bring my hunter, and give me a legacy set of armor and weapons that I can upgrade throughout at least the first year of destiny two and i'd be happy lol. Dont give a damn about light, weapons, etc. But on the other hand, I'd love to see something completely different. I wanna see the traveler finally becoming the enemy. The ghosts become corrupted. Slowly leading us to the inevitable final battle where our ghost merges with the traveler along with millions of others to show us that this whole time we have only been clearing the galaxy of possible threats to him. If they give us an actual storyline thats worth a -blam!-, I will gladly start over and lose everything.
-
I don't think they will ever try to pull a move like this ever again. That one time lie was a huge hit in their reputation. A company should learn from their mistake and act accordingly.
-
I just want to carry over the likeness of my character. The armor the weapons the rep that doesn't matter to me. I just want to be able to feel like my guardian went through all of Destiny and part 2 is his next adventure.
-
Now that you told them not too they will.

From a balance standpoint, it makes the most sense for Bungie to make us restart gear and level wise when Destiny 2 rolls out. If you think about it like this, our max light level will be 400 when all is said and done with ROI. If were able to carry over our guardians gear and level then the Bungie devs are going to have to figure out how to balance the old stuff with the new stuff and that's going to create havoc in the meta not only for us as seasoned players but for any newcomers that might be late to the series. More likely that not if they do make us restart it'll be a complete wipe on gear and level and subclasses, but they'll probably let us carry over character class and appearance as well as Grimoire.
-
Its forbes. They dont know shit about games.
-
Bump.
-
I am all for starting over and i hope they do that. I think the fresh start would help the devs as much as it would help us. If they have to keep all the same gear and characters then they would probably use the same old upgrade system. I want to see leveling up changed and made more deep and rewarding. That wont work if everybody already has a max level character. The light system/i level is such a boring method of progression. I want to see stats, more defined classes and things like that in other rpg's. The other thing to consider is balance. Starting a new game with hundreds of old gear plus a bunch of new gear could be a mess to balance. Two things could happen. All the new gear gets made mediocre to keep it in line with the old or the new gear is better and you end up not using the old anyway. I hope destiny 2 gets to start over so that bungie can make the game that destiny was supposed to be, before their development issues.
-
Maybe they pull a little Pokemon gold/silver action and make your current character your rival/final battle in the sequel?
-
I would like the option to redesign my guardians look though
-
No Bungie said that you will carry your character over somewhere. I'm sure of it
-
The article is really wishy-washy. It's like the guy doesn't even play Destiny. He says it's okay to port over our characters but not their gear? He assumes that D2 will be like every other game ever made (and it might be) and makes no case for bungie's ability to innovate. Personally, I think the article is crap and should be ignored by all. It's trite click-bait plus a shout-out to Tassi, author of a terrible trilogy.
-
Yeah I'm not sure I could keep going if I had to start over.
-
The work I've put in completing quests and filling kiosk, obtaining grimoire, etc. That's all stuff I'd like to see relevant in D2 as it feel like continuing your legacy in an online rpg.
-
I wonder if we get over a thousand likes if they will reply
-
Edited by Shaitan: 9/3/2016 12:13:19 AMOhhh yeah! I have already said it... if I have to start from zero in Destiny 2 I will not be buying it. I don't expect everything to come with me but I do expect things like level, light, grimoire and specific materials. I don't expect all my armor and weapons to come along. It would be nice if Bungie recognized the OG Alpha, beta day 1 players who have put in thousands of hours into Destiny going into Destiny2.
-
If its a fresh experience; weapons, subclasses, planets etc, then that's ok. (None of the old missions, strikes etc, completely new stuff). I'm thinking it will just be a large dlc drop, larger than ttk and everything moves forward. Seems the most likely.
-
Edited by The Warrior: 9/2/2016 10:52:20 PMHow would this work if the classes are redesigned? I don't think these subclasses are moving forward in their current forms so they would have to restart it. As far as weapons and exotics, its safe to say a lot of these will be redesigned as well. At the end of the day, destiny 2 is another game in the franchise so if you want the same exact weapons and abilities with new gameplay then that's DLC or an expansion. In a new installment everyone should start fresh If you don't like that then don't play, at the end of the day its just a video game that we play for fun. It "starting over" isn't going to be fun to you then don't play. Chances are zero to nilch that all of our progress just carries over and im fine with that Grimoire and stats should carry over throughout the series tho

Edited by Scrub: 9/2/2016 10:06:10 PMThey're becoming predictable. They will have an excuse...like some new 'lore' or some other bs. But the truth will be that they need to rebuild this game because the code is trash, and its built up around taking the lag into consideration. And the fact that most of the game has been altered negatively (nerfs) at the request of people who whine, at the request of children. Kids were whining all over the forums and it was hilarious, but Bungie listened...so that rekt the game. Bungie wont make that mistake in D2, unless derp. They will have Dedicated Servers and a Fresh, Clean Destiny 2 experience ready for us, so they will wave that in our faces and we will accept it. #StockholmSyndrome
