Have you ever wondered about the upgrade materials for weapons? I understand relic iron, but wormspore? Really? And then there is exotics and some legendaries that can "ascend". What the heck!?
So my theory is that when you ascend a weapon, you let the original user's light pass into the weapon. Stuff like ascendant energy is a Guardian's light in a physical manifestation, and when you "ascend" the weapon, you fill it with the light from those Guardians.

It is what grows out of a dead Worm God's Larvae after all, who knows what it does. But Ascendant Shards and Energy quite powerful, the Shard is a knot in space time and Energy is Boiling Zero-Point Field Energy (Energy taken from a Vacuum). They're not just using these material to make extra parts for a gun, all theses material (From Spin metal to Ascendant Shards) have special properties that augment a Guardian's Gear
