Its a double edged sword, this. On the one hand is your argument. You get shat on when playing with your friends and it feels bad. On the other hand is the opposite argument. Suppose SBMM was removed or was now in favour of you, the lower skilled player. Well what happens when you play with your high skilled friends, you shit on people all the time. Now with the mercy rule in place you will most likely be applying that rule in every game. That gets boring. It isnt fun for high skilled players to play in low skill lobbies all the time. Sure its great to play with friends dont get me wrong. But having no challenge to your Crucible matches isnt fun. Well, Private Matches are coming, hopefully that settles that debate

If SBMM was removed you'd have an equal chance of getting shit on, shitting on, or doing equally as well as someone because it'd be almost random who you were matched with. There'd be no real reason to hate Crucible because everyone could play together whenever they wanted, and you could easily leave the match afterwards and get matched against completely different opponents next time (unlike now where a some people only ever see the same 100 or so people)

  • I can only see this applying to full fireteams only tbh For the individual player or for the small 2/3 man fireteam it is not only your opponent being matched randomly but your teammates too. One could be constantly matched with low skilled players against teams equal to his own skill or higher. That will cause a huge problem of inconsistency which will actually hurt the Crucible in my opinion.

  • Think what you want, but CoD works in a similar way (more CBMM, they tried more SBMM, everyone hated it and it was gone within 24 hours), and that has a much healthier PvP. I guarantee you most people would rather get smashed by someone on a fair connection than lose to a worse player due to a terrible one, or stress over whether their shots are going to hit or not like right now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • CBMM has nothing to do with playing with your teammates and getting shat on or not. I was speaking purely based on that topic that OP brought up. The conversation about SBMM vs CBMM is its own separate thing

  •
CBMM has nothing to do with playing with your teammates and getting shat on or not.
It does though, with SBMM it matches you to the higher skill in your fireteam in most cases, making it miserable for the lower skilled player in the team. Removal of SBMM means the game goes back to more CBMM, means opponents are more random = equal chance of getting people who are better, worse, or equal in every possible case

  • I guess youre right But with a removal of SBMM, yes it will be connection based, yes matches will be more random, yes there is equal chance to shit on or get shat on or even be equal but i dont necessarily agree with that setup. Its inconsistent. Speaking from a personal viewpoint i dont want to go into a Crucible where its too easy to kill enemies. Likewise playing against players too high above me is not fun either. So SBMM is necessary to introduce these boundaries. The problem comes in with cases like OP's where he cant play comfortably with his friends. Perhaps there should be social lobbies for such instances? After all not every fireteam will have such huge differences between their individual skills, and not every fireteam will want casual games. We just need more options in the Crucible tbh when it comes to matchmaking.

  • I'm not talking complete removal, I should make that clear, I want it put back to Y1. With the SBMM in year one though it was connection based while searching, and then it split the teams based on skill, while in year two it goes skill based while searching, and then it seems like it barely tries to split them based on skill. So while SBMM did exist in year one, it was a different (and better) kind
We just need more options in the Crucible tbh when it comes to matchmaking.
This is what it all boils down to, I have connection-based, connection+skill-based, and skill-based in Halo 5, so I can make my matches whatever I want, casual or sweaty. Destiny currently has "you can wait for 10 minutes for a Salvage game and then sweat your heart out for 10 minutes, you have no say in this" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • this is a good point and i appreciate the input. if i said anything that sounded like i wanted matches more in my favor skill-wise--or just easy matches for me and my friends, i didnt mean to. i dont believe that there should really be anything built into matchmaking saying "you are going to get shit on this game, because _____." thank you for the reply.
