It's not SBMM!!! SBMM is only Bungie's excuse for bad P2P choice they have made. It's an excuse for lag and latency.
When you are playing in a full party, the chance for you to be on the good side of this lag is much bigger. Not because you are suddenly that good, but because in the full party the chance is bigger that your team will get the host.
Last Iron banner i was playing alone: my average k/d 0.9
In a full party my average k/d was 3
So it doesn't depend on players skills, but on the combination of internet connections.
Sometimes 1 player leaves and the other player joins instead and suddenly you can't get kills any more.
I also don't want to play pvp with some friends any more.....just because i can't get a kill, when playing with them. They are good players, but our connections don't go together.
Destiny's PvP mostly depends on internet connections en who is the host. After that your skills.

You are right about the connection but wrong about the player skill. When you are in a full fireteam your teams average combat rating is what determines who you play. So let's say 5 of your teammates are .9 kd and one teammate is 2.0 kd. Your average team kd is 1.08. So your enemy's will likely be around this 1.08 kd which is not far from a .9 kd so you won't notice any difference. However your 2.0 kd teammate will be far superior to everyone in the lobby and will have the easiest games of his life racking up kills and carrying the team which will likely bring your team the win. I have experimented with this in the last three iron banners. I have a 1.25 average kd and most of my friends are better than me with a 1.75+ kd. When I play iron banner with them I get destroyed because the average team kd and skill is usually 2.0+. But if I pick up a bunch of randoms off the forum to Create a fireteam and all of their kds at at or below 1.0 I have the best games ever and am top of the leader board every game. Skill is still the primary factor for matchmaking and winning games.

Edited by Stari: 8/31/2016 2:45:05 PMI don't agree man.....your friend's high k/d's are probably mostly, because they have specific "Bungie Connections" and they mostly may play normally.....also you have to have some skills, but who hasn't , complaining on this forum ;) I've played Crucible more then 35 days and before Halo's and 12 years CoD's every day, gamebattles........ Don't play any other games then those. Have done this research already back in 2007 on CoD 4 and Halo 3. This is why in Destiny i watch every match closely. Example 1: When i'm playing against players with k/d's above 2 i don't stand a chance. You know why? 1. I mostly see them too late on my screen or they appear when i'm almost dead. So at the moment i see them, i'm already damaged for 60-80% 2. When i see them earlier, my bullets do almost no damage. But when they start shooting back at me with the same weapon (example: Doctrine), then it feels like a machine gun is shooting at me and my life-bar goes down that fast. Example 2: Last Iron Banner i played with 5 another players, which are so new to Destiny, that they even can't do Oryx normal........ 1. First couple of matches i was making around 50% kills of the whole team and we won everything. 2. One player left and another player joined (also noob). Suddenly i played 2-15 and couldn't make a kill. Those noobs all had more kills then me. We lost almost every match. Example 3: Also last Iron Banner i played with my Clan that has an average around 1.5. There are German, Swiss and Dutch (me) players....and we won almost everything.......untill one player left and the other player joined, instead. Suddenly every match somebody else got kills and the players which got kills before, couldn't get any kills or got much less kills. And we lost 4 of the 5 matches, too. There were also days that i joined them and i was the only one who could make kills. After a few matches, they all quit :) How do you explain that? Also here you can see the difference in my results between 2 different internet providers/ connections: http://imgur.com/a/xxVxS

this is me, i enjoy playing with most of my clan, but there are 1 or 2 that when they join, i suddenly cant kill anything other than an afk, not that my k/d is anything to brag about but i have had some really good games, so i just resign myself to the fact that i'm no longer going to get kills unless i'm running sticky nades, and or a shoulder charge and only go for the obj and call outs when i die. ......sigh......

The same here

I think this is an accurate description. when I play against fireteams the matches are always the laggiest this game is all about host connection
-
Fireteams can introduce their own problems (especially if the problem is due to the connection between players in the fireteam, not other people brought into the match) Switching from sbmm to cbmm would not solve the problem as it is due to who you chose to team with, not who Bungie matches you with or how they chose the people Dedicated servers may help rather than p2p connections but gays not going to happen in the next year

Edited by NYDIBS: 8/31/2016 12:32:18 PMno, I'm saying it's laggy when I play vs fireteams when with my fireteam, we have received plenty of hate mail as well. that we are lagging and cheating even though for us it doesn't seem that way, we have no issues fireteams definitely have an advantage, in more ways than just communication, but connection as well my fireteam is all located on the east coast, so we don't experience many issues when running together

It's ok. I get the message No need to say it 3 times ;-)
-
lol, sorry. Internet went out during the commute
-
I guessed it was a connection problem Do you think it was Bungie's way to silence us when we were talking about lag?

I think there is a strong element of sbmm in MM at the moment but also some cbmm. Pre-made fireteams destroy attempts to MM based on connection That's why the fireteam always seems to be laggy to people outside it
