Tired of the "wireless is bad" stigma. Yeah, maybe 6 years ago that was true, and of course if your console is halfway across the house from your router...
I average 14-16 ping on a wireless router. 48 down, 7 up

There will always be problems with wireless connections that wired connections will not have, and that's a fact. 6 years from now, they will still have their problems.
-
Never disagreed with that if you read longer than one reply. Simply stated that the difference is barely there, and only a few ms, which wouldn't affect the outcome of a game, i.e.; if you're dying constantly, a few ms won't change that.
-
I agree, my wired vs wireless latency difference is 1ms. These new routers are pretty sweet! Unfortunately they also seem to be getting massive! Wife calls our ASUS the giant spider! LOL

With those 8 antenna haha

You're fine with your wireless network as long as your router is relatively modern. Wired is better, of course, but you know that. Pinging with the properly sized packet and for a substantial period of time is actually a good way to figure out the round trip latency between you and a destination...regardless of what the OP keeps telling people. It isn't perfect, and it doesn't tell the whole story, but it's useful. Anyway, if you want the best possible connection, go wired. If you don't take gaming as seriously as those who think every ms matters, wireless is fine. The latest standards have really done a good job of catching up to your typical home Gb ethernet connection. As long as your console is positioned appropriately and you don't have a wall filled with liquid or electromagnetic devices between you and your router, you'll probably be ok... Fyi - Sometimes I move my console to a room that doesn't yet have an rj-45 jack, and I notice no difference.

as i said before ping is only a very gross network tool. It tells you the time it takes to get to a set node, and back to your computer. Its the equivalent of phoning a guy up to see if he'll go outside and see if its raining where he lives. Wireless isn't but, for some things, but online PvP games is not on that list dude. I wish more people took this more seriously, as its bringing the game down for everyone

Edited by Snow: 8/27/2016 9:44:59 PMYou realize most modern routers compensate for wireless latency and there's no difference in speed, right? Again, you would hold a valid argument, if this were 2009. As for stability, Destiny requires a small internet connection that most routers can't even dip to the low point, and unless your house is getting nuked or your house is a giant electromagnet, your wifi will not be affected. One last thing, Ping is a gross network tool??? What!? It literally tells you your latency, which is what causes the delays. This argument alone makes me want to leave this thread. But I have to state, I'm not arguing about which is better. Wired is better, but to say "never go wireless because it destroys the game" is completely false. Even if my connect WAS slower than yours, it would be by a few ms, which your body and mind wouldn't even have time to react to, which wouldn't affect the outcome of the game :)

Edited by SkinlessGorgon: 8/28/2016 11:17:53 AMYou do realise that most people use an ISP routers that were made 6 years ago, or haven't actually touched their router since they put it in in 2009? Also your understanding of wireless signal interference is just wow dude. Even most of the modern "gaming" routers state that the 1GB ethernet port is for gaming. Also I know the PS4 has the worst possible wifi chip on the market. Unstable as shit. I'm not sure about the xbones, but I;m sure its much the same quality. While your router may be the best wifi on the market, your consoles is using 4/5 yo tech and not the current AC standards and it doesn't even use a 5gHz network. Have fun in your moms basement

Well, thats how it works on the internet. Assume everyone is full of shit, and that everyone is always wrong
-
You do realise that most people use an ISP routers that were made 6 years ago
This is a bigger problem than anything else you have mentioned.
Have fun in your moms basement
Very mature. Insult someone who disagrees with you by claiming they live in their mom's basement. You take this way too seriously.
-
Thank you. I've been trying to tell this guy the same thing.
-
Its a stability thing, hardwired will always be more stable and reliable than wifi. If Wifi works for you then great, but please know that sometimes it may be you thats negatively affecting others games.
-
The consoles have weak wi fi csrds.. so they can't make the most of good connections, they also can stutter so while you have low ping one second it could spike depending how reception is handled
-
I havent had a wired connection since my ps2 modem... it aint the consoles
-
I went from wifi to power line, bypassed internal network, setup port forwarding, etc etc blah blah blah. It is pretty much the same. Destiny has regular lag. Other games don't. None of this technical jumping through hoops should be necessary for one game. All it tells you is that Bungie is doing one or more things wrong.
-
"I set my network up in 2004 and I play other games just fine. I'll just go back to NF4 or CODBLOPS3 casue they work. I;m 13 and I don't want my daddy touching my router anymore"
Destiny uses a non standard port set up. COD Titanfall and BF use the same ports as PSN / XBL.
-
Look, good for you kid. You have figured out some tech stuff. Now STFU, and stop defending Bungie's bad setup. Muted.
-
You didn't read what he wrote. You're just being a dink because he disagrees with you. How old is your router?
