First off I want to say that the goal for acquiring full gear sets is not very high. I am just shooting for a damage decrease or something for the gear now cause I felt there is no real need to have all the gear unless there was an incentive. The April update is allowing people to eventually reach max level by playing and grinding exotics for their next boost to a piece of armor or weapon. There needs to be an incentive to gather all gear sets or there is no real need to. A shader when you have all pieces is cool but what does that really do for me? Doesn't help kill or not be killed by the enemies. Whats the benefit to getting a whole new raid set when people will more than likely infuse it to something else to power their old gear up?
Example:
All Kingsfall Raid gear (5% damage decrease from Taken) or (5% damage increase to Taken)
All Vault of Glass gear (5% damage decrease from Vex) or (5% damage increase to Vex)
All Crota's End gear (5% damage decrease from Hive) or (5% damage increase to Hive)
All Vanguard/Crucible/Faction gear (5% extra rep gains) This will stack for faction exotics rep boost.
Other Ideas:
All Raid gear: Faster reloading and carry more ammo for all weapons
This would become a trade off from variety but make the goal of striving for gear sets that much more desirable.

Division already did this

Should there be set bonuses and proper gear sets? Yes. Will there ever be set bonuses and proper gear sets? No. Bungie has pretty much just made this Halo with a few RPG elements throw here and there. The only real tiers we have in gear are crap (anything below legendary), legendary, and slightly unique looking legenadaries (raid gear and exotics). Kinda hard to become legends when we can die from light level 5 enemies even when we are light level 335.
-
What about the exotic piece? Don't think most would use the bonus if they lost the exotic.
-
Lol you get that idea from the division? I've always thought gear sets for Destiny would be bad ass. Maybe they can implement something like for the runes or ornaments?
-
-
What is this logic you speak of. You want us to actually have to decide if we want to use an exotic piece. Someone posted about if the weapon makers should make armor. I said they should but have perks that go with those weapons. So I support anything like this to add to our Destiny legend.

This would be cool!

Just an idea
Coe gear set grants either faster reload[prison only] or do 5% more damage or receive less damage in prison of elders.
Bump!

This is a thing in other mmo style games. Diablo 3 is one that I know does it well. Honestly it has to give a more exotic styled perk to add customization configuration. Mainly cause you need to use no exotics. In the current state, the need for full set is merely for vanity whereas perks and stats are far more important than looking cool in your full set gear. Although the new artifacts seems to be heading down the path that the full gear set should have taken.

Edited by Gideon VI: 8/8/2016 11:37:29 PM+3 Armor/Recovery/Agility for full-gear sets would be a lot more attractive. +5% more damage or rep is too minuscule.

I got an idea! Wear kings fall armor set and get a chance to generate an orb when getting void sextuple kills on minions of the darkness. About as useful as everything else in the raid...
-
Like the division? No, trust me it makes the game a head ache. Coming from a guy who's played 200 hours worth of endgame.

It sounds AWESOME!!!!
-
Yeah, like all your primary weapons fire elemental damage.
-
100% agree. Your idea just adds more incentive to grind, which is in Bungie's favor. I wouldn't mind grinding for matching armor sets, if it offered a nice little benefit. The perk options are nearly endless and don't have to be outrageous, or game-breaking. I like the faster reload/increased ammo capacity idea, or slight boost to weapon stats (like, 1 or 2% - again, not game breaking, but the difference between dead and 1 or 2 hit points, so escapability is slightly increased). Or, slightly increase blink distance.

Muted
-
nah thatd just ruin customization, my default armor set is a strong mix of different gear sets that look well mixed up
-
No we will lose our customizing our characters and then LFG will require a full set then. So no.
-
So no exotic? That would make for an interesting compromise, it'd have to be more than ammo boosts or small damage boosts against specific enemies to compete, but I can see some cool stuff coming out of it. Personally I like to mix and match armor in an attempt to look make something more stylish than the default full sets (I fail often).
-
And you would create another "obstacle" for people who lfg. Must be 350 light Must have Iron Gally MUST HAVE FULL RAID ARMOR Like wtf already! You will have int/dis/str all over the place. Not 5/5/2 or 2/5/5 depending on your play style. I like how my WoD only takes 3m40s. With your idea it could take up to 5mins. Or a whole minute for my nades as opposed 25s.
Your idea is meh
-
The likelyhood of someone using no exotic armour is very unlikely
-
-
No. It would just end up like VoG and CE days. Everyone wearing exactly the same sets of armor. I prefer variety and the way almost all characters wont bump into someone else wearing the same armor.
-
No. Mainly because I prefer NOT wearing full sets, so that would incentivize me to do something I don't like. When I wear a full set, I feel like I am sending a message that I can barely make level and need to wear all gear from the only phase of the game I am good at. Logical - not really, but the only time I have worn a complete set of anything in the last six or eight months was to unlock the Taken emote.
