One thing I think Bungie nailed with the current TTK Artifacts, while not the effects, was the unique flavor of each item. They are after all Artifacts by name, and should have a distinct background. Story pertinent, if you will.
While I love the improved versions and their insane effects, I worry that we have merely made a trade-off.
What used to be amazing, flavorful ways to make your character even more unique are going to be converted into uniform powerhouse effects that, once nerfed (and they inevitably will be,) will have no real value to the players overall. No unique flavor to the item occupying their Artifact slot. Just an effect everyone else will be using, too.
I really, really loved some of the TTK Artifacts. Vell Tarlowe's Sigil, Fist of Eight Moons, Traitor's Die, The Damned Lute, Yzoz's Pendulum, Sootpearl and even the Firebreak Eternal. SO MUCH FLAVOR! CUSTOMIZATION!
Will we be losing all those wonderful, unique flavor text options come Rise of Iron?
Will there be alternatives with powerful effects, but have some distinction from the Iron Lord Runes?
I believe we've established that Year 2 items will be Infusable. But they'll have significantly weaker perks. Will there be a way to reobtain them with actual useful perks, like the ones in Rise of Iron?
I think it's great what happened to them power-wise, but they've just lost a lot of significant player value as far as customization and story immersion goes along. Sad that this seems to be a trade-off decision.
