Hey Bungie, just one quick question. If you guys had originally planned for an artifact that negates DoT in Rise of Iron dlc, what was the purpose of nerfing the "Viking Funeral" perk?
Im just curious.

Because the grenade did literally like 180 damage out of someones 200 hp so you could finish them off with a slight tap of gunfire with any gun. It was abused like hell in trials. You could wear the voidfang vestments and use your grenade, get killed and get revived with full grenade energy to spam another grenade. You didnt even have to be accurate with them. Once you get a hit, you see them burning and you finish them off. Skip grenades are the closet thing to what viking funeral grenades used to be right now. Theyre due for the next nerf.
-
Oh no! A potential item will be released that may have the capacity to reduce the effectiveness of a bonus feature applied to only two grenades utilized by a single OPTIONAL perk for a specific sub-class of a specific main class! And it will only be griped about in a seperate portion of the entire game? Hold the phone and stop the presses, we have an emergency here.
-
Because they were overpowered.
-
With that artifact and the way sunsingers are now, bungie might as well take sunsingers out of the game
-
So people stop complaining about something that was OP to begin with.
-
Edited by goldstarlestelle: 8/4/2016 10:57:59 PMBungie said SS were fine but Viking Funeral was a annoying I wonder who made them think that...looking at you PvP. So there is your reason. Pvp players were annoyed. News flash. Pvp players are ALWAYS annoyed.
-
They will be buffed back to the og state.
-
Probably because the anti-DoT artifact is in itself a -blam!-ing terrible idea, and they didn't want it to become Destiny's version of Stopping Power.
-
Good question
-
I would hope that the entire sunsinger subclass is brought back since people that don't know how to deal with it can put the artifact on and they can't complain
-
Incoming buff for DoT effects confirmed.
-
Now sunsingers will be completely and utterly useless
-
It doesn't negate, it reduces.
-
The artifact reduces the Damage DoT effect do not the time. At Least thats how i see it. Plus in the current meta Viking funeral was a perk that awarded panic and blind grenade tossing to well compared to how they are now where if you place them well you are rewarded the same. There is no reason to try and bring back such an overpowering perk that elongated the DoT and also brought you within the 1 shot to 90% of all primaries and gave you no chance at countering unless you have something like shade step and performed it at the right time. Plus if you think about it there are a few artifacts that will be worth using over the DoT one since things like double fire bolts and melee or double wombo combos will be more usefull than trying to counter a burn from thorn when all it takes is 2 headshots and 1 body shot to kill. In other words what you should worry about being buffed is useless when its easy to deal with now and it will be then.
-
Umm... because we don't have that artifact yet? Just a guess.
-
Edited by Brockie: 8/5/2016 3:37:11 PMPresumably they balance for the current meta as opposed to hypothetical future releases. Plans change after all. Presumably it would also have made the DoT artifact a must have, ending burn for everyone and completely trashing sun singers anyway.
-
We had it coming. Warlocks were too strong. I know the class is built entirely around fire based burning abilities but who cares? In crucible it's OP and that's ALL that matters. Warlocks are perfect the way they are!
-
I don't think sunsinger will suffer from it. But hunter and titan will probably cry about it because the incendiary grenade will not be able to ohk someone who use this artifact.
-
sunsingers are done. Even after the burn fix there is no reason to use them. That can honestly be said of the warlock in general.
-
Or why nerf Thorn?
-
They just buffed solar abilities....
-
Because it appeases the Twitch streamers and hardcore PvP fanatics that keep Destiny relevant.
-
They said they did it because it was "annoying" so basically because a bunch of YouTubers and streamers complaining.
i started this game with a warlock but now the class just seems dull and underpowered
Edited by More Power: 8/4/2016 4:52:20 PM
what was the purpose of nerfing the "Viking Funeral" perk?
Trials snipers/streamers were being pestered by DoT. That's why. As a result, Sunsingers almost disappeared completely from the crucible - such a predictable result of nuking the firebolt DoT. That's why Bungie created the artifact. I wonder if the artifact will be a Lighthouse reward......
-
Because if they put it back people would main the artifact to stop those stupid OP grenades, so they put it back down so people are not forced to play a certain style to compete in the meta.
-
i wonder why they got rid of viking funeral but still nerfed the heck out of firebolts.
