So, it's been a couple weeks since the infamous "Three Step Glitch" surfaced. This glitch made it nigh impossible for people to catch pokémon, so people began turning to third party sources such as "Pokévision." Recently, Niantic expressed their distaste for sites akin to Pokévision (even stating directly that they disapprove of pokévision). Soon after the interview released, the sites that they disliked went down. Not that this was unusual, but they never went back up.
All this does is show where Niantic's head is. They don't care about you. They prioritized a deleting a medium which people utilized to make catching pokémon even feasible while they fixed their broken application. So, instead of fixing their system, they remove the system entirely and shut down third party sites that assisted with finding pokémon. Yes, it can be argued that these sites are "cheating" or that they "go against their ToS." I'm not refuting either of these things. The point here is that Niantic has deliberately ignored and spat on it's community by taking this course of actions. Pokévision alone had more than 1/5 of the Pokémon go population on the site within the FIRST FEW DAYS, so it isn't as if this will only affect a select few players. It's almost insulting that they care so little about their game and fanbase.

Edited by Seldser: 8/1/2016 8:17:49 PMI'm mad that they took out power saver mode on iOS. I'm not asking them to officially support my outdated 4S, but that feature is what made it even remotely playable during my walks, now it can easily kill my battery in around an hour
-
Game got too big for them to manage, they now have no clue what they are doing. The playerbase will now hemorrhage because the game is so simplistic, unbalanced, and frankly not remotely interesting to play > level 20-25. Looks like it was a flash in the pan. Not even trading or glitch fixing can salvage it. Gameplay is just too terrible.
-
Im glad they did.most of them cost money
-
Meh, never used 3rd party apps. the 3 footsteps will probably come back, its still an ok game.

Edited by DirtyRandy: 7/31/2016 9:55:36 PMThis angers me as well. For someone living in a big city, where lots of people play the game, this might not be a huge problem. The game spawns Pokemon based on the amount of regular players in the area. This sucks though for people like me living in a medium to smaller size city or even town where not much ever spawn. Also not many people know this, but the reason the "3 Step Glitch" happened in the first place was due to the server not being able to handle everyone all at the same time. I'm not frustrated with the 3 footsteps being gone, as they did nothing at all. I'm pissed that they completely made it impossible to locate or find anything accurately with the removal of the third party sites. Also RIP PoGo's servers August 1st... Update Notes:
So far the little updates I have noticed that are good and bad are: -Curveballs more curvy -Battle Screen and Catching more smooth -Character Customization -A few less bugs -Pokeballs look a little different -Some pokestops and gyms are gone, along with nearby nests... If you have anymore I'll add them
I still got a Lapras yesterday, knows Blizzard sweg
-
So basically you're whining because you can't cheat anymore and a broken feature was temporarily removed?
-
Of course they are shutting it down. It's cheating. Do you seriously think Niantic is in the wrong for making people explore and play the game correctly?
-
Thing is the sites may not be working now but that's because Niantic made it so a single source can only pull so much info off their servers at any given time. So while the entire player base cant use a website to find pokemon. Those that made the programs and those tech savvy enough to figure it out will still be able to use a personal version of it.

It's now impossible to find Pokemon in small towns. It used to be before I could walk around town with a few friends for a day and find a few rare Pokemon and catch a lot of common Pokemon as well. After the 3 step glitch though it became a lot harder to find Pokemon. I went out with friends a few more times but we could never find anything, if we got really lucky we could find something good but mostly it was drowzees pidgeys and the occasional Jynx. So our strategy after that? We'd go to the one place in town with multiple pokestops, you could reach 3 of them from standing in one place so we'd stand there with all 3 lured up and check pokevision for rare Pokemon. It became a lot more boring but at least we still had fun and levelled up easily. Now I'm just sitting on a street with lures. So much fun, so interesting. There's no Pokemon hunt anymore, I spend my day evolving my 100 pidgeys and 50 drowzees.
-
Never mind that the whole "Pokevision" thing ruins the whole surprise aspect that is finding a rare Pokemon. What's the point of playing if you already know where everything is? It makes catching 'em all far too easy. The "Pokemon that aren't on the nearby list show up" complaint is stupid too. The Pokemon likely just spawned.

Edited by Flynn: 8/1/2016 2:36:51 PMThis would be similar to Blizzard shutting down third party applications like vent even though WoW's in-game voice chat doesn't work. How can people defend this?
-
Edited by Kone19ps: 8/1/2016 2:32:58 PMThey did the same thing bungie did. Make everything more random, remove tools that help, watch the playerbase dissolve, and pretend nothing shady is going on
-
Edited by What I Look Like: 8/1/2016 5:57:08 AMI imagine an obese dude reading this, flipping between the Bungie forums app, Pokémon Go, and a tracking app as well.. Furiously shaking his fist. Flubber bouncing. Sweat (not from walking and playing the game correctly, but from the leather couch and an abnormally high concentration of body heat) flying off of the clenched hand, wholly reminiscent of a potato. "BUT I DON'T WANNA WALK NIANTICCCCCCCC"
-
Based Niantic Now people will play the game as it's supposed to be instead of knowing where everything is from the start. Go walk and explore m8, ten times better than looking at multiple apps and doing jack shit.
-
I never used Pokevision because it needed a laptop to use and it just seemed like a chore to use it. That being said with as -blam!-ed up as the tracking is in the actual game it was the best option. Now with the site down and the tracking essentially shut off in the game there isn't a reliable tracking for anyone which is really stupid. Niantic should have fixed their shit before shutting down something the community created to fix a broken system.
-
Show them your anger delete the app and never play again
-
It's 70 meter radius. So now you walk in circles widening your berth until you walk the circumference of where you were initially standing. If there is a fence or obstacle in your way, odds are you're screwed and can't get that one.
-
Lol you're so salty. Did you forget to mention the fact they reduced the nearby by list distance, making the list more accurate about what is actually near you. Did you forget to mention the "glitch" was just a by-product of them already disabling the step system, as it took too much load on the app. Did you forget to mention THIS GAME ISN'T POLISHED YET! They are still working on it. It's a solid 3/5 now, later it will be an easy 4\5 or 5\5. Please do your research before being dumb.

I straight up lost my progress from the new update Logged off and back in multiple times
-
I have another idea for making catching Pokemon feasible. Just start walking around. Problem solved.
-
Nearby is completely broken to its core!! Pokémon show that are nowhere to be found, random Pokémon pop up that didn't register as "nearby" (done 167km, can't imagine what I've missed from this) And I've looked at other players "nearby" and it's been 100% different to mine!! I just walk & see what pops up, but a better tracking system is needed fast!!
-
-
So they removed the steps, what does this mean for finding Pokemon now? Haven't played with the update yet to see how it works.
-
Bungie is a better developer than Niantic. Let's all wander aimlessly now like morons looking for phantom Pokemon

Not your average bump
