First I want to start by saying this isn't going to be a rant. (At least not totally. lol) And I want to say Thanks Bungie, for giving me an excellent game to play for the better part of 2 years. It has been a wild ride full of fun, laughter, and sometimes frustration. But definitley an interesting ride the whole way.
However... I; as a legacy player that's been around since Beta, will of course be a bit sad to see the Destiny community move forward without me. (I don't plan on buying current gen anytime soon.) One of the main things that made me sad (and made my whole PS3 clan sad) was the fact that we weren't going to be able to play Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris anymore.
We have always been a Crucible first kind of clan and to us we always felt that the Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris were... Just Part of the Game. The only reason most of us have gotten over or near 320 is because of the Iron Banner drops and infusion. I've never even beaten King's Fall! Or taken on the Challenge of the Elders! (I know some people will consider that heresy. lol) I just like pvp in shooting games and those pve events just feel like too much of a hassle to bother with all the time. Only occasionally. I think having the Crucible as a reliable way of gaining Light should be just as important as "end game activities." And now my only reliable and preferred way of raising my Light is going away? But all the happy pve players get to keep their King's Fall and Challenge of Elders? Why is that? And how is it that Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris are considered "live events" when they happen all the time? lol.
That being said I really just wish for one thing. A parting gift. A thank you gift of some kind. I know this is wishful thinking but my first, kind of bigger idea is this...
Two permanent Crucible playlists. One that is like the Iron Banner that drops Year Two and maybe even Year One Iron Banner rewards with increasing Light.
And one that is like Trials of Osiris with Year Two and maybe even Year One Trial of Osiris rewards at the end of matches.
These post-match rewards for both playlist would also include armor shaders, emblems, and ships. And both of these playlists could be level advantages enabled or even not enabled, either way.
But the big difference between these modes and the real events would be: No Lord Saladin in the Tower, No rank up packages, No bounties from Brother Vance in the Reef, and no Trials Passages (which means no trips to the Lighthouse.)
That's my first idea for a goodbye and thank you to legacy players. A bare bones version of both Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. If this is not acceptable then other options would be to just put all these rewards as frequent post-match rewards in ALL the regular Crucible playlists. Or make these rewards as a 2nd and 3rd guaranteed reward from Crucible rank up packages. The packages would have their one normal guaranteed rewards, then an Iron Banner guaranteed reward, then a Trials of Osiris guaranteed reward, and of course the normal possible rewards.
Just a few options for keeping the Crucible viable for Legacy Players going forward.
My other idea is fairly simple. Give us Year One infusion. On all armor and weapons that we still have from Year One. And all of this would be for LEGACY CONSOLES ONLY. To give us something to enjoy until we might can move forward to current gen.
But yeah those are my ideas. All I'm asking for is a thank you for our time and money spent. Not too much too ask right? I don't think so. Thank you to all who read this and God Bless. :)
(EDIT: A little clarification for some people that are apparently confused. I'm NOT asking to keep Iron Banner or Trials of Osiris. I'm just asking for a way to be able to still get the CURRENT rewards those two events currently reward. And I'm NOT asking for new rewards. Just wanted everyone to know that.)
-
What you are asking for would take time and cost money. Which is a big reason why they did not want to develop RoI for legacy consoles. Buy current gen. Or be happy with what you have.
-
Why don't you but a current gen console?
-
A goodbye gift? You can still play Destiny after RoI releases.

Yet another child who feels entitled to something because they're not upgrading but spent their money, knowing Destiny is a game that requires you to constantly stay up to date.
Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris were... Just Part of the Game. The only reason most of us have gotten over or near 320 is because of the Iron Banner drops and infusion.
Guess what, same happened for people who didn't upgrade to The Taken King. They weren't able to do it because as the game moves on, these two events must as well.
Only occasionally. I think having the Crucible as a reliable way of gaining Light should be just as important as "end game activities." And now my only reliable and preferred way of raising my Light is going away?
Why would you need a light level increase anymore since you don't do PvE and Iron banner & Trials Of Osiris will be gone? You contradict yourself by saying this since PvP doesn't use
Two permanent Crucible playlists. One that is like the Iron Banner that drops Year Two and maybe even Year One Iron Banner rewards with increasing Light.
You want that, well it's already there. It's called Rift, Clash, and Control. AmaIng right? Such a strange concept.
And one that is like Trials of Osiris with Year Two and maybe even Year One Trial of Osiris rewards at the end of matches.
Once again, Elimination is in the game for a reason little buddy.
My other idea is fairly simple. Give us Year One infusion. On all armor and weapons that we still have from Year One. And all of this would be for LEGACY CONSOLES ONLY.
And this is the worst of the ideas. Adding, Year One armour & weapons have different upgrade guidelines compared to Year Two. So when someome where to finally move forward, they'll be carrying forward broken gear that doesn't fit the current mold that Bungie intended.

There's a guy who sits outside the Cask n' Flagon after Red Sox games with creative signs, such as, "Ninjas killed my family. Need money for martial arts training so that I can get my revenge." I'm sure he could afford a PS4. What's your excuse?

Why are you owed anything?

How bout some gas and a lighter? Send her off with style 👍🏼

Your goodbye gift is when you finally upgrade from you 10+ year old technology you will have a better game to play. One not held back by archaic technology.

Edited by Neutrill: 7/29/2016 5:25:26 PMYeah what gives? All these new PC games want Windows 10 and I just want to play them on Windows 95

You mean I won't be able to play this on Atari anymore?
-
I feel like if you care enough about video games to be on a video game forum and post something like this, then it's worth the $250 or so to upgrade. Mind enlightening me as to why you aren't doing so?
-
This is a brilliant idea, it gives us a reason to play on legacy consoles.
-
One of the main reasons Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris are being discontinued for legacy consoles is so the support resources can be dedicated elsewhere. I'm sure you've noticed the past several IBs and ToOs have had major issues and delays, and fixing them took a lot of resources. If those were to continue on legacy consoles, all those support resources would need to remain in place. Without a revenue source from legacy consoles (no more paid DLC), paying for legacy console support becomes an exercise in robbing Peter to pay Paul. Another thing to keep in mind (and I've been posting this or something like it on every legacy console thread I respond to): the legacy consoles are old. They are older than iPhones and the Android operating system (great, now I feel old). No one expects phone companies or phone manufacturers to provide support or resources for cell phones that old, so why should it be different for gaming consoles?

Edited by Xero: 7/29/2016 4:45:18 PMThe purpose of this post is understandable, completely... But why treat this as a goodbye? It almost sounds like you have no intention of ever updating your system. Ever. If that is the case, then you understand the choice you are making, and have no reason to ask for much... To be honest, I see Bungie doing something like giving legacy players who are still highly active a special shader and emblem, so they are marked as players who still continue. They are encouraging as many people to upgrade as they can. Looking back at the News Feed, and reading the Upgrade Support section, those players are already missing out on the content updates when the changes occur. To add to that, if a player has to repurchase something of Destiny, when doing an upgrade, they should be able to get some kind of discount to it. But notice how there is a sale for TTK on the PSN and Live. The best thing to compare this to, is when TTK first came out. Game modes were still available, but didn't look up to date. That will probably be the same thing for the legacy consoles. So all in all, that is going to be the best that can be done. Given the system restrictions, and workings, only so much could be done... It makes sense, what Bungie is trying to do, and your request as well...but I don't think that is doable...
-
Legacy players aren't being cut off. The only problem is you choose to stick with an old console and it's only a matter of time to upgrade. This isn't an end of the line deal... Besides, I've still got my PS3 (as most people who upgraded probably do). What's so special a gift if I could just log in once on my PS3 to get it then go back to my PS4 immediately after?
-
I just have to know what's the reason for not upgrading?? If you really enjoy destiny just get a new console.
-
It'll be an emblem with the poo emoji
-
Your parting gift is advice, to play the best and newest games... upgrade your system.
-
Funny I've always thought Trials of Osiris was too much of a hassle. I doubt you'll get any type of parting gift as the whole point is so they don't have to do much work on the Legacy systems anymore. That and they want you to upgrade and buy a new copy of the game.
-
In that case I want something too, I switched from legacy console the day Xbox one released.
-
They did. It was a beaver infested patch..... Your welcome.
-
The reason why they are considered live is because they are always being adjusted and are affected by gun tweaks/server maintenance. PoE and KF are already set in stone, nothing changing there.
