SBMM vs CBMM
SBMM=Skill-Based Matchmaking
CBMM=Connection-Based Matchmaking
This is my second post about the most complained things in destiny. I am not a very skilled player and my kd shows but I have learned to deal with many annoyances and achieve a 1.0 kd on my titan after many hours of crucible.Last post I talked about Shoulder Charge. In this post I will be talking about the matchmaking in destiny.
Ever since the April Update this discussion has been very active in the forums. Most people are complaining about SBMM and that we should get rid of it. I am going to talk about my experiences with matchmaking and what SBMM and CBMM is.
SBMM focuses on the players skill and is supposed to find players of the same skill level as the player and slowly increase the difficulty of opponents as that player get better. The connection's may be slightly laggy
CBMM focuses on finding the best possible connection to make lag as non-existent as possible.
Now both of those are good in their own ways but with destiny's matchmaking (in my experience) has neither.
Currently I am playing against people of high skill with awful connections.
A normal game of crucible will usually consist of
-Being shot through walls
-teleporting guardians
-spawn killing
-getting one shot by weapons that shouldn't
-getting cross-mapped by things that shouldn't
-getting destroyed by people of higher skill.
Here is an example of what is currently happening on my warlock.
I load into a match and keep in mind my warlock is awful and has a 0.4 kd. I one flawless emblem and continue to pull out my phone and look that person up and he has a 2.1 kd and I look up another player and that person has 1.5 kd. Then I load into the match and get shot through a wall by a sniper. Then I kill a person and get destroyed by someone who is clearly better than me.
If there is skill-based matchmaking I shouldn't end up against people of such high skill and if there is some connection-based matchmaking there I shouldn't be shot through walls. If there is both as bungie claims they are liars. There is no way to explain the matchmaking but it is neither SBMM or CBMM.
I believe that restoring the year-one matchmaking(I'm not a year one player but it looked like that matchmaking was more consistent) should fix the problem or creating ranked and unranked playlists.
Part of getting these things comes with our feedback. We need to make our voices loud and explain to bungie how we want the matchmaking to be. However be kind in your efforts.
In conclusion I declare the current matchmaking broken. I think that having both types of matchmaking is a good thing but those 2 things should be separated and never together.

You need to remove dedicated servers.. that will never happen the way bungie is set up apparently. Obviously anyone who understands anything should pick that. If you remove it CBMM is the best option there
