Do I have to transfer my xbox 360 account to xbox one before a certain date?

I was told by a friend that we only have a certain amount of time to transfer our old gen destiny content to newer gens. is this true? and how do i do it, or will it be automatic? my other friend also said on expansion I and II his stuff was automatically put on his xbox one and when he went back to 360 he had all the progress that he did on xbox one

Currently there is no time limit on upgrading your account from a Legacy Console. In August 2016, there will just be a new step to the process (the Account Import step) that will fork your progress so that it is no longer shared between console generations. After the import process begins (sometime in August), the first time you log into Destiny on a current generation console (Xbox one or PS4) you will be prompted to import your progress. After you do this your progress on legacy and current generation consoles will become separated. For more information please refer to Bungie's article https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=44804 As for licenses, the DLC 1 and 2 will transfer with you to currently generation consoles https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12122 The progress is still shared on legacy consoles and current generation consoles until August.
