Hello, it is I, TriumphantLord. This my first lore/concept/anything post, so constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated. Enjoy!
Now, I dunno about y'all, but I've seen a large influx of 'New Element' posts and I've noticed a lot potential misconceptions and misinformations. While there is nothing in the Grimoire itself to back what I'm about to say, there is logic and science.
First off, it seems many people are confusing 'light' and 'The Light'. This is expected, as they are the same word, however in the Destiny Universe they are not in fact the same. The'Light' is a fundamental force of nature and philosophy that we, as Guardians, follow. It is also known as the 'Sky', and is the natural opposite of the Darkness. Generic light has to do with photons and particles reflecting off of objects into our optic nerves.
Also, the point of much speculation about a potential 'New Element', is having to do with light, and not what the other elements have direct connections to.
•Solar represents heat and thermal energy, which is a simple concept, but the magic is in the second characteristic: light.
•Arc is an representation of electricity and lightning, as well as a binding force. The main correlation with fundamental ideas of science is energy.
•Void is commonly viewed as the absence of light, but this isn't exactly true. It is a gravitational force; a singularity in space. It is arguably the most complex and difficult to understand, but basically it's just science. Along with the other elements, it has a conclusion drawn from its behavior, and that is force.
Here we are, the stuffs of the universe: light, energy, and force. However, one could argue that they all have a connection to energy, and I would say you're right. Arc is the most tethered(huehue) to energy, but they all have their place.
Hopefully I have enlightened you all about the nature of these fundamental elements, and that you may take this into consideration when you discuss them.
Edit: I took notice to the Grimoire cards, and have seen that arc is more of a binding force. I think this could be paired with the concept of a circuit, but I just thought I'd add that tidbit of information. I will edit the body accordingly.
Edit #2: This thread got kinda big(not including my own bumps), and I thank y'all for that. Below, HDuvallH has made some interesting points that I think are worth noting.

We need a kinetic class altho thats not really light based Interesting read

Some kind of radioactive elemental damage would actually fit in very well in the Lore. 'Gamma' would be a nice name for it and of course it would be green.

Okay so im gonna drop a physics bomb on all yall So there are four forces of the universe Gravity witch is void Electromagnetism witch is ark Strong nuclear force would be Solar Weak nuclear force would envolve the 4th element Decay As op described void energy describes the force of gravity so theres not much one could go into there However op was incorrect about solar and arc Electromagnetism is by definition arc, or electricity. A mooving magnetic field creates an electric field and a mooving electric field creates a magnetic field. These two together osolate creating a wave witch james clerk maxwell prooved was light so ark is one of the fist elements used by the gaurdians because it is light there own weapon Thw strong nuclear force witch is so powerfull it holds the proton particals together ever since the begining of time. It also is the force that powers the sun and stars ergo solar energy. Stars envolve the weak nuclear force too witch makes it hard to argue the last part The weak nuclear force. This force governs radioactive decay, halflifes of particles, and sub atomic particles. The only viable element for this to represent would be a decay element in destiny

Look I'm fine with new elements. Buuuuuuut please no ice or poison or something. Poison is thorns thing. Ice is just... Boring.

Edited by Stormhawk118: 7/19/2016 4:49:56 PMIn destiny, the term "light" is almost always used in one way: In reference to a guardian's paracausal powers, which are created by a ghost filling a corpse with light, its not just philosophical, light is a real thing that pretty much turns guardians into living weapons Similar to magicka in elder scrolls
theres a quote from cayde saying "void light shreds vex shields" in a quest step
-
Edited by IceIllex: 7/19/2016 2:30:56 PMI just want ice to be added in. Use the lost power of Ice to magnify your inner light and overwhelm your enemies

Void has always struck me as the "dark light," to borrow from "It" or "Metalocalypse." It's the light at the edge of the black hole. It's The Light represented as gravity instead of heat or electricity.
-
They seem to be cosmic elements...i.e star elements. Solar is obvious.. Void is the 'black hole' element.. ARC is the charged particles from dying stars.. Just wonder when the Gas element is comming...
-
In simple terms. Void is Ice, because Fire, Lightning, and Ice make up the 3 elements of Magic. We use "Space Magic". In complex terms. Void is "Space". Space is the complete absence of everything, which includes heat. Which leaves only cold, which is the absence of heat. Cold is nothingness. The Void is completely cold. Therefore Void fills the "Ice Element".

you might want to read the grimoire before you go off spouting half made up correlations and science buzz words
-
You clearly didn't read the grimoire on the "elements" before telling everyone that they didn't know what they were talking about. Then the edit you made after you did read them is just an attempt to bend the information to fit your explanation.

I feel it should be addressed as well, that Destiny takes on a theme of "The Rule of Three" Three guardians Three Weapons Three abilities (super, melee, grenade) Three classes The Tricorn, destiny's logo, is in the shape of three. If they added a fourth element to destiny, it would be out of context of the games theme.
