Coverage on Turkey

I've only seen one post on what's happening in Turkey, and it didn't talk about the recent events. I figured I will make my own post considering how important these events are. So far this is what's happened after most coup leaders surrendered: Turkey has shut power and closed off the airspace to Incirlik AFB, government forces are blockading the base. (Incirlik AFB is where the US keeps 90 B-61 nuclear weapons as a part of NATO.) Turkey moved against a US base in Turkey. The white house has convened a national security meeting. Turkish President has said Turkey is not a friend to US. Russia has forces ready but not moving. However, it is safe to say they would side with Turkey to cause a NATO split. That's all for now. Right now the private defcon system (non-government, government defcon doesn't show the public) is still at defcon 4, which is just one bellow peace, so it seems they believe this'll be over soon peacefully. But there's always the chance of Turkey saying -blam!- you to NATO even more. Edit #1: Russia and NATO forces are increased, but both are still only defensive. The situation in the AFB is ongoing. Edit #2: The US has banned all flights in and out of Turkey. Edit #3: China has begun a large scale drill that will last until September. Russia is beginning war exercises off the coast of Crimea. There is even more civil unrest in Istanbul. At the Air Force base (again, with 75-90 nukes) there is gunfire and explosions, along with low flying jets. It's unknown whether they are Turkish or NATO.

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Clean turkey (discard giblets and organs), and place in a roasting pan with a lid. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, dried basil, ground sage, salt, and black pepper. Using a basting brush, apply the mixture to the outside of the uncooked turkey. Pour water into the bottom of the roasting pan, and cover. Bake for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the thigh measures 180 degrees F (82 degrees C). Remove bird from oven, and allow to stand for about 30 minutes before carving.
