"Erm... I don't know where that place is. Mind leading the way, tribune?"
English
-
He nodded assembled the the legionaries they marched towards general quarters, the tribune at the front.
-
Ariel followed the Tribune closely as they made their way towards the quarters. "So... any idea what we're up against?"
-
"Chaos."
-
"As long as it isn't bugs..."
-
"We've beaten them back quite some time ago." The legionnaires March at double time, and soon they arrive to the battle. Chaos space marines were attacking the main entrance of the general quarters. The forces there were holding but they weren't making headway.
-
The small guard outfit had been taken by surprise, explaining the ineffective defense they had been putting up, until reinforcements had arrived.
-
The legionnaires form ranks and fire lasspears and grenades into the attacking force, before drawing force swords and charging the enemy in force.
-
Turns out the chaos assault was a lot denser than initially believed. They had good cover and were hard to reach, causing a quite literal killzone in front of them, reaching them for melee would be nearly impossible.
-
The legionnaires were attacking from the rear, (should have specified that.) causing panic in the ranks of chaos. The people of the general quarters rallied at the arrival of fresh troops to defend the gate, not legionnaires, but one of the other guard units.
-
The panic was there, but the deeper ranks were alerted to the assault and had prepared. (So the current layout is in a three-way zone. You're attacking from the southwest corridor, and the chaos is assaulting the south gate, which is to the current north of them.) Performing a rapid battlefield rotation, the ranks of long range units swapped places with Khorne berzerkers, who didn't hesitate to attack the legionnaires in melee, and with overwhelming strength. The battle had, for now, stabilized again for the chaos assault, as the majority of their reinforcements were coming from the southeast corridor. Even with someone like Ariel with them, the battle was difficult. However, things quickly began to change as the chaos forces were now being attacked from their reinforcement corridor, cutting them off into a less than fortunate position.
-
The legionnaires were used to fighting the barbaric khornates. Their formation held under the assault, it being similar to what Suetonius used in Britannia to defeat Boudicca. The legionnaires rotated to keep the front line fresh and able to sustain the assault of the berserkers, whose weapons clattered against their shields.
-
I don't know shit about how that battle went, but I can assume it wasn't against eight feet tall daemon-powered enhanced hulking supersoldiers in power armour. Compared to their sheer bulk and strength, the shields buckled. While the men fought with bravery, in a contest of pure strength they wouldn't last very long. Luckily, they wouldn't need to. With the mysterious assault from the rear, the Chaos troops had begun dwindling to a point where retreat was necessary. The sorcerer at the center of the formation opened a warp portal, allowing several of them to escape, leaving a few last heretics to be slaughtered.
-
The battle in question, pitted 23:1 the Romans were out numbered, they lost but 400 men. The legionnaires here would hold, their arms and armor significantly updated, built to withstand such assaults, The senate of Roma Nova was expected to take care of their legions. Yet they still took casualties, the left wing started to buckle as they took losses, tradition placed the strongest men on the right, the least experienced on the left.
-
Soon enough, the sandwiched chaos forces had been wiped out. As the last Berzerker fell, the legionaires saw who was the mysterious forces that had assisted them. They were Tempestus Scions, or Imperial Stormtroopers, that were clad in black armour with a grim painting over the helmet. These were the Shock Troopers of the Baltic Manticores, dubbed Death Corps. These special soldiers, among the manticores, were the utmost experts at taking down the threat of chaos, having all their gear tuned to counter chaotic equipment. Most of these were, like the ancient Sisters of Silence, all donned with the pariah gene. These Elite men and women were a force not to be denied, especially against chaos. They had become indispensable with the Bloodwrath crysis. They approached the Legionaires, yet Ariel did not seem affected by the effects of the Pariah gene. "You guys alright? Seem we arrived just in time."
-
The legionnaires nodded, as they sheathed their weapons, and walked the battlefield to check for wounded and the dead. The tribune spoke with the centurion about something.
-
"Well! The day is saved, it seems!" Ariel had a bright smile, she still stood near the Tribune. "And it was fun."
-
The tribune nodded. "They won't try something like that again. I'll see about having more defenses set up here. I suppose you want to enter general quarters to see it. I can arrange an escort if you wish."
-
"Where will you be going?"
-
"I was going to return to the legion's encampment and report to the legate. He will want to know that you have arrived, and that the attack was repulsed."
-
"And where is that?"
-
"It's hard to miss, west side of the general quarters, it's the place with all the tents surrounded by a makeshift wall."
-
"Alright, thanks! Maybe I'll come and say hello sometime." She smiles.
-
He smirked. "I'd appreciate that. I will see you then."
