The layout of the base isn't like that at all.
It was a large compound with many structures built inside of it. Chapel-barracks, Mechanicus temples, Monasteries, strongholds, it was a pretty big compound. There was enough room for maybe four or more companies.

Christ... The base is filled with soldiers, who look at him strangely for yelling like a bloody lunatic. Like... what do you even want, man?
