Here's my idea to make them a little balanced;
Make them have backwards dropoff. This is a video game and it's not an especially realistic one so who gives a shit about that angle. Make it so a sniper shot point black would do about as much damage as a shotgun blast fired at sniping range. This would deter people from using snipers at all ranges and hopefully help limit their dominance in PVP without ruining them. With this, a sniper player wouldn't be able to run around getting one-shot kills from melee range or even mid-range but hey would still be just as good as ever at sniper range.

So a bullet doing less damage the closer you are to a target? Interesting...it does have some merit. I have also thought the same a few times. The Range stat itself would need a major rework to fit this though.
