Sniper have gotten to a point where they are literal perfect weapons for any bad player or good one, to put it simply sniping in destiny takes no skill.
Point one: Snipers are extremely easy to handle. (STOP! Actually read this out before you run to comment.) What I mean is switch time. It makes no sense for something so long and stalky to be put away so quickly. However it does make sense for side arms, tiny pistol when primary runs out or fusion rifles, because once you shot the round you can't instantly shoot again. Honestly, you could defend shotguns switch time as well, but I'm not touching that can of worms because people's bottoms really hurt when those words leave your lips. Anyway, Pick up any sniper in this game and you can pull it out like any CQC weapons which is a huge problem somebody should not be able to whip out their sniper body shot then finish off with the primary it should take a few seconds to put away such long and big weapons not snap on our backs in a millisecond.
Point two: Snipers shouldn't be two shots in destiny. Sniper are extremely powerful weapons which makes sense heavy damage in exchange for no CQC ability with it and massive damage for landing precision shots. However this isn't the case because snipers have plenty of CQC ability due to snipers being able to kill in two body shots and it's switch time being fast (excluding perks cause as much as I don't think fast switching is valid, exchanging a perk for faster switching is completely fair.) Pair that to the fact that almost any sniper in this game LITERALLY almost any sniper can two shot a guardian. Now you may think "he's going down lanes he deserver it, or he could of dodge, get good". But that's easier said then done when an average player who isn't adept to CQC combat or is trying to get in range for a kill, or the player who knows exactly what their doing get shot in the body and is quickly melted by said sniper or his teammate. Now if snipers were three shot or lost damage based on distance closer meaning less (which is a debatable solution due to map size. The goal isn't to ruin snipers but balance them.) But how current snipers are any person can take a sniper and use it to win fights or matches they wouldn't win if snipers weren't OP. This is turning out favorite game types into who is the better sniper/dodger and the only part of the sniper meta that takes skill are dodging the bullets that come from a gun that practically guides them and the guardians who close that gap. (Trials of Osiris). Speaking of trials why on earth can people res snipe? Not to open that can of worms too much, but I'll leave at this how much skill does it take to a shoot at something that literally can't move unless someone else pushes it.
Point three: Sniper in destiny have such high aim assist, the game practically aims for the person. (I need clarify what I mean by this so thank you to the pro sniper debaters who brought it up) Basically AA makes the reticle of a sniper stick the player who is being aimed at and it leave quite a large window then other games and some time it registers hit which clearly are missing and if you add hidden hand you can see shot whizzing pass a person head and some how it actually hits and that is baloney. Now before you say server side issues, A) doesn't exclude the fact that it happens. B) Bungie has no Intention of getting better servers. Plus no recoil for being shot at unless you have high caliber rounds or a high impact weapon which is ridiculous you have conform your primary to beat a special. plus no wobble/sway while aim down sights. Now pretty much any sniper in any other game will penalize you in some way when you get shot. It makes sense, in exchange for the power you wield in your hand you get punished for bad sniping by unscoping or flinching. But in destiny you simply ignores it all and says "Oh I got shot? Well I can still pump two bullets into you or shoot you once in the body and finish you off with my Primary lol" that shouldn't be the case. Instead how about snipers have wobble and you zoom out once shot. Similar to other fast pace game like Halo or CoD. (Note: People didn't like those examples. Sorry but it's true.)
Keep in mind these are PVP only changes! Not PVE ones!
Edit 1: (remove due to valid points)
Edit 2: Keep it up guys I want to have this discussion.

Shut up
-
I don't know why...I can't hit crap with mine.
-
this game isn't any other game, it is its own game.... and that's why I play it, if I wanted it to be halo or COD i would stop waiting for fixes and go play those games.
-
Um it's a sniper rifle in real life you get shot in the head you die even in the body. Please quit being salty because you like to stand in one spot and get killed all the time.
-
The Anti Nerf community is over 5600. Deej and Cozmo won't a knowledge them.
-
I suck with snipers, so I do not blame anyone for being good with them. All it takes is a steady hand. However, I'm pretty good with my eyasluna, Lord high fixer, or hawkmoon and Lord of wolves as a secondary. gives me a little range, and close up. just stay out if sniping lanes if you can't handle it.
-
Then let's make chest shots precision shots since we're talking about being realistic
-
I think the extra flinch would actually solve alot of the problem. Tired of hitting a sniper with precision hits from my primary only to get domed. Glad to see this thread is still going though!
-
I think they just need a bodyshot damage nerf (honestly I don't think they need to be nerfed at all #buffprimariesandshotguns) but if the bodyshot damage was reduced that would punish bad snipers you know the ones that all they do is bodyshot then pull out a TLW or mida then body you with that it's so dumb
-
Alright you flaming fag got you are just mad because you can't snipe.. We snipers have PRACTICED and PLAYED this game long enough to be good and I'm not gonna have noobs like you have sniping nerfed AGAIN!!
-
Snipers aren't a problem, btw this is coming from a top player. I regularly play sweats or top tier pvp. Snipers are very easy to counter. U jus need to learn how to adapt. Nerfing them really isn't the answer. Don't peak a lane that is being hardscoped. If u know someone is scoping that lane, either don't peak or come around the corner sliding or jumping to make it hard for them to land a shot. Snipers aren't a problem, it's people's playstyles. Sniping takes skill as well as shot gunning. People will continue to say this gun and that gun r op but in the end, when it gets nerfed, that person will continue to find out that they still suck. Snipers weren't a problem in year 1, why are they now a problem? With the taken king, primaries have gotten weaker and have slower times to kill. Now that primaries don't kill as fast, special weapons/heavy weapons are a lot better. Snipers don't feel as threatened as they use to. Before they were usually only able to get 1-2 shots in a gunfight but with current meta, snipers can pull off more shots. Anyways snipers aren't the problem, it's ur playstyle, if u don't believe me, we can play sometime and I can show u or u can continue to ask for nerfs and make urself look bad. At this point in the game, weapons are as balanced as ever but jus have slower ttk. The only thing unbalanced in this game right now is classes.

The biggest problem with snipers right now is in CQC. It is a long rang weapon and not a 10 feet away weapon. They just need to change the mechanics
-
I agree... all we need is less aim assist on every sniper and sway

Edited by ssjgamer15: 6/29/2016 4:26:26 PMI agree to agree unfortunately
-
Snipers are stupid easy to be successful with, bodyshots are too powerful with how easily common they can be in play. Something bungie nor the community cares about because they can't be asked to earn their kills. If this game had proper mouse and keyboard support, you would all hate snipers without question.

Remove aim assist and add de scope on hits... Simple
-
Edited by SaltyJack591: 6/28/2016 6:32:55 PMWell they need to fix head glitch. One shot kills also should be in the face mask area otherwise should be considered same as a body shot. You do know if you look thru foliage with your sniper scope you can see the name tags, you shoot the tag and it counts as a head shot even thou you can't actually see them. Even with all of the issues I have learned to stay out of the sniper lane which minimizes the risk. Sure there will always be those who practice jumping/sniping, quick scoping or using the sniper like a shotty since the nerf. I just simply excepted it as part of the game and if a player gets too annoying I will pull out my sniper and hunt them for the rest of the match.

I disagree

The problem is how low the barrier for entry is. In very short time, any player can be good with a sniper in just about any scenario. On the other hand take fusion rifles for example. They have a very distinct effective range. Punish heavily for missed shots. Require intimate understanding of each model's projectile velocity and recoil pattern. And even given all of that it's still up to chance whether or not the game will give you the kill, or even significantly damage a target. Whereas all Destiny snipers are hit scan. They cripple opponents on a body shot, many take an enemy to within 1 bullet of dying. Most every impact class kills on the revive. The most common models can kill a super from a safe distance. The rewards far exceeds the risk. It's the obvious right choice.
-
I was surprised how easy they are to use, most games don't have a steady aim without crouching or a skill based solely on sniping.
-
This is a troll post....its pointless
-
I dont think the actual guns are the issue. Here is a fool proof fix. Cut off the thumbs of all good destiny players and I think you will see a difference.
-
If you put it like that then you're pretty much wanting an ultra realistic game. If you think sniping is bad now then apply that idea to making snipers center body mass one shot kills. 0 damage fall off for any weapon(with the distances we fight in destiny) and being able to wall bang with almost aby weapon. This game would turn into cod real quick.

Lich
Let us embrace necromancy bungie - old
I can agree sniping doesn't take much skill in destiny You can ads the entire game No scope sway You can spam body shots No hold breathe mechanic Body shot and switch to primary is to easy Body shot anywhere does the same damage Aim assist is high an pulls and centers the reticle on targets No compensating for bullet drop Barley have to lead your target Flinch is non existent -
You forgot the satire tag.
-
People seem to forget that Year 1 snipers pretty much had zero aim assist increasing perks outside of scopes. Hidden Hand wasn't introduced until, I want to say HoW. LDR and Longbow didn't used to have HH. And I'm fairly certain in one of these patches they increased the base AA value of snipers across the board. Sniping got easier to the point of being almost automated, and the risk/reward ratio heavily favors reward since getting shot while being ADSed rarely results in losing the engagement. The only "counter" to it, is either getting a high RoF AR or PR with High Caliber Rounds, or sniping yourself. Neither of which work very well, hence the quotes.
