"College student, more like. And I do understand how to aim and fire a gun, thanks to my dad. This doesn't seem to be much different, thankfully," I said, setting the stock of the lasrifle against my shoulder. I paused for a moment. "Well, other than the fact that where those fired bullets, this one shoots freakin lasers."

"What's your story?" The bar tender asked.
-
I looked up from my meal, before siting back as I swallowed what was currently in my mouth. After taking a drink of water, I responded. "From what I heard, the same as anyone else here: suddenly found myself in the middle of bumfück nowhere, until someone found me." I snorted. "Of course, I found a Chaos daemon summoning first, so I was more than a little panicked when Blackburn found me."
-
The man's attitude changed. "Word of advice friend, that man isn't very popular, you'd do well to not mention him. He's rumored to be sympathetic to chaos."
-
Shit, hadn't meant to let that slip. "I'll keep that in mind," I said, lower than before. "But I highly doubt that he worships Chaos. For one, he works with the Imperium, and for another, he helps people like me. To most any sort of Chaos mindset, I'm just some useless civvy. Not much damage I can do." I shook my head. "And yet, not only did he help me, but he gave me this gear - which got a bit more use today fighting the very peo- things, that those rumors say he associates with." With a shrug, I sat back. "He may be a merc, but he's a sight more decent than what he could be. If he truly worshiped Chaos, why not just offer his services to them?"
-
"Because he's smart. And because we think it might be tzeentch, associates with xenos, eldar lover he is."
-
I gave him a look. "And xenos automatically equate Chaos? Believe it or not, most of the other races in this wide blood-soaked galaxy are in the same boat as us, just trying to survive. To a lot of them, Chaos is just another thing out to kill them, same as with us." I shrugged. "Course, the hell do I know? I'm just some stranger, pulled from his life before to try and survive in this hell hole."
-
"I'll give you the benefit of the doubt friend, you're new here, you've still got a lot to learn. Xenos want us humans dead just as much as chaos does. "
-
I shrugged again. "And we want them dead all the same. I'm not saying they're not a threat, just that they're a wholly separate one from Chaos." I paused. "Most of the time, anyway."
-
"Never met a dark eldar then. Just mind yourself, especially around the inquisition around."
-
"Fair enough." With that, I tucked back into my dinner. Seemed I was going to have to keep my thoughts to myself for a while. Hopefully I wouldn't have too much trouble with that. Hopefully.
-
It proved correct, no one bothered him.
-
Eventually, I sat back, my plate and bowl clean. "Thanks for the food. Mind if I crash here for the night?"
-
"So long as you don't bring those xenos or cultists and if Blackburn comes in here he doesn't start anything."
-
"Can do," I said. I might have said something witty, but I was tired, and had obviously already pissed this guy off enough. Best to not push him further.
-
He leads him to his room and leaves him the key, and heads back down to his bar.
-
I opened the door to observe my lodgings for the night.
-
It was a plain room, a bed, some dressers, a chest, a chair, and a desk.
-
I sighed as I locked the door behind me, finally letting the reality of my future hit me. I wasn't going home anytime soon. Upside, there was some really cool shit here, if I lived long enough to get my hands on it. Downside, there was a LOT of shit that was bound and determined to make that endeavor difficult. I shook my head to disperse my thoughts. I could consider it tomorrow. Right now, I needed sleep. I considered taking off my flak armor, but decided against it, only taking off my helmet. I'd be more prepared if something happened, and feel far more safe, if I kept the majority of it on. With that, I laid back on the bed, putting my helmet to my left and my lasrifle to my right, and shut my eyes.
Yeah, I'll put up another opener tomorrow. Any ideas how to reconcile this version with a version without gear and with a cut in his arm?
-
gear and a cut on his arm? Who was the other instance with?

MegaMortar.

ah, well, I'm not sure I know him.

Oh, well, might just do some weird timeline convergence thing. Because the Warp did it.
