Companion App Using 2.6 GB of Storage on iPhone 6

A friend of mine notified our subcommunity that his companion app was taking up a ton of storage. He deleted the app and reinstalled it, and the storage it was taking came way down to normal levels. I checked mine: 2.6 GB. Another friend found his is taking up 2.6 GB as well. This is way too much space for an app, and deleting it and reinstalling suggests something is wrong. Is this a known issue? Does Bungie have a recommended fix? Is deleting and reinstalling the way to go? If you would like to check how much storage your app is taking, go to settings > general > storage & icloud usage > manage storage. Scroll down to Destiny.

Heck' i'll still have an older version of the app on another device i never update an it only takes 30mb for an app o_o so yeah, memory leak. Also turning off the 3D image stuff does not fix it.

There is a problem with the app. Go into settings then application. Delete the cache and the database.

          • Maybe it's something wrong with the newer iPhones. I've got the 5s and I'm only using 189 MB download for the app

This definitely seems like an iPhone issue. My Android app is only using 89.7MB and I use it a LOT. We should poke Hal and see if this is a known thing. Edit: After checking with a couple of other iPhone users, it appears that it's not the cache so much as the "content database" that needs to be cleared and is taking up all of your space.

          • Delete and reinstall, will go back to a few hundred megabytes. There is a memory leak they aren't addressing, as I brought this up months ago in the appropriate forums/tags.

            • Your phone should have a setting option to clear application cache. Applications will store data on the phone for faster loading times, moreso the more frequently you use an app and especially so if it's using the internet like this one is. I'm sorry I don't have the specific instructions, as I am an Android user. But do a search for how to clear your phone's cache. It should be a pretty basic straightforward task.

              • I just checked mine on a S7. There is two listing for data. One displaying the 'Data Usage' at 2.6gb(this is data used over the net) Then there is installed data, Im at 93mb for the app. Double check that you see both and aren't miss-reading the info.
