*TL;DR at the bottom
I was with my family visiting an old couple, Rufus and Mary.
To give you the rundown, think Southern Belle or classy Texan (or Leonardo DiCaprio in Django).
So here we are eating dinner and Rufus wants to tell the kids (my sister and I, both arguably not kids) about his old grandfather back in the day. Rufus starts out by saying (not exactly)
"I remember when I was about 8 and there were always people at my grandpa's house. I never really seemed to know why.
I would just be over at the house for fishing or something and he would always be giving speeches or stuff for all these white folk.
*Mary starts seeing where he's going with this, apparently he's told this story before*
After my awareness and my curiosity, I opened the large chest at his bedside that would always grab my attention. Inside I found these big white bedsheets and a bunch of other trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing--"
"RUFUS!" Mary busts in, "That story is not acceptable at the dinner table!"
So afterwards I go to him while he's petting his dog Luna and before he sees me (remember he's old) I overhear him saying to the dog,
"that was just some fine and wonderful company wasn't it, Luna?"
At this time it's nearing bedtime but I really wanted him to finish the story. He told me he ended up finding out his grandfather was a high ranking officer in the Klu Klux Klan and his house held a lot of meetings.
TL;DR
Old couple that is friends with my family in Texas. The guy tells us a story about how he figured out his grandfather was in the KKK.
