Alright. This needs to be toned down from the recent s*** storm that is "The Great Generation Divide" as I'm calling it. Let's be civilized and discuss the good and bad about the actual DLC Expansion that is coming out and the executive decision by Bungie to ditch last Gen
Note edited*: I am a 360 player with an Xbox One already and I have bought Destiny for the One and 360 so I have a hand in both sides of the spectrum for a fairer analysis.
Good: (Rise of Iron DLC)
1. This is great! New content! Just what we have been wanting! New Raid, Patrol Missions, Areas, and much more!
2. It's not free... This logic can be Taken both ways, on the good side: it means this content will hopefully be better since we have to pay to access it. And you can gripe all you want about Dark Below and House of Wolves but they were still better than Vanilla Destiny in content most of the time.
3. The mythos of the Iron Lords will be revealed! I love the concept of the Lord's and I would love to see who they were (plus I'd love to give Felwinter a quick Shoulder Charge to the nuts for that f***ing shotgun)
4. Lord Saladin is a bada** and we will hopefully get to see how he is as a character in more depth. They will also hopefully do this to Shaxx and Zavala as well seeing as they were once his protégés
Bad: (Rise of Iron DLC)
1. The premise of the entire story seems... rather sudden. Now there is just a tech disease and the Fallen Devils are involved... Unless I'm missing something, it feels rather sudden unlike Crota who was a part of the mythos to begin with, Oryx responded to us killing his son, and Skolas was a little sudden but it did make sense for him to show us
2. It's not free... This logic can be Taken both ways, on the bad side: I have to pay to enjoy content, nothing new but seeing the free stuff all through this year? Yea it's a minor gripe but a gripe none the less.
Good: (Leaving behind 'Last Gen')
Edit*1. Destiny can now (hopefully) move on to look better and better. With all honesty the 360 and PS3 are over a decade old... There are newer things out there and we all need to move on. Windows XP was hard to give away too but it's a relic as well
2. All progress relating to your character transfers easily from Last to Next Gen (that is until August-ish of this year) so that's something to celebrate.
3. There can be one larger communities instead of two fragmented ones for each console which helps find friends to play with
4. This will hopefully allow the Rise of Iron to be even greater than expectations with out the limitations of the old hardware (I say that with a grain of salt)
Edit*5: Xbox One Destiny looks... AMAZING! It's almost breath-taking the detail that's been put into the game! (This could also me being enthralled at 6am my time but still)
Bad: (Leaving behind 'Last Gen')
1. You remember how year one players were pissed off that they had to pay $60 for the base game then another $20-40 in Dark Below and House of Wolves then another $40 for TTK even though the newbies got all that for just $60? Yea now multiply that rage by 10x because those who are stuck Last Gen have to buy the game IN ITS ENTIRETY AGAIN and spend another $30 on top of that for the new content as well as several hundred bucks to even play the d*** thing. Those of you who are saying 'Oh you had time to save money' F*** off, some of us don't exactly have or want to spend over +$500 to play one game. And all you guys were b****ing from the start so don't even.
2. It shuts out those who just bought the game. They were late for the 'hype train' and didn't buy it till now but then they hear 'Oh well guess you have to buy it again!' Its ludicrous and a middle finger to some fans in that respect
3. This should have been saved for Destiny 2, It would have made more sense on a consumer level and a development level instead of just deciding 'Nope! No more content for you!'
Edit*4. Well... besides looking pretty and with cool other details... Why was everyone happy Bungie dropped Last Gen? It's the exact same game, albeit with some good tweaks like instant menu loading {Praise the Sun!} Unless RoI does something that will make Destiny Thorn when it was on top or Ghallyhorn good... It's the same game... Current Gen players are not as held back as it seems
And what do you guys think? Leave your suggestions on what else is good or bad in the comments below and keep it civil. This is just a game, there is no reason to fight over this and there's no reason to act elitist either.

I'm all for new content and I'm not complaining about having to pay for it. What does grind the hinges on the old wallet though is having to buy new consoles to be able to play it and not only that will we have to buy all previous content again on next gen. I thought Bungie thought more of their customers that that. Next gen should be brought in with Destiny 2 imo.

Fight me puny Titan. You attempt to Shoulder Charge me? Just remember that when I Nova Bomb you. I will prevail for I am Lord Felwinter.

All of his lore existed long before the house of wolves dlc

The dlc transfers sorry you lose but good points
-
Of all the things they could have tied off to end D1, they chose to throw in some shit that like this? I don't get it. Seriously. I'll buy the DLC, probably, but just to have it so my player will be current when I do log in every now and then. Irks the hell out of me though.

Overall, I think it's a good idea to leave last gen. People who complain about having to fork out $30 for more content are the same people that think the government should be paying all of their bills while they do nothing but sit on a couch and eat cheetos. It's not any ones fault if some people can't afford a new console and game after their current console is 10 years old. IF you're so mad about not being able to afford things because of "how shitty things are" in your life at the moment, then maybe you should get the fu*k off that couch, stop playing destiny for 750+ hours and actually do something productive so that you can move up the ladder in the work world so you can afford things you want without drowning yourself in a puddle of self sorrow while lashing out at Bungie and other people that can afford these things. I understand that Destiny started on the last gen and new gen at the same time and that people might expect it to continue until Destiny 2 but you can't keep adding content to a game on a system that has very little RAM to be able to process all of this new content at a continuous basis. It's not about the HDD space, it's more about the RAM and GPU being able to handle multiple things at one time in a smooth way.. I never understood why people would complain or disagree with the pricing of these DLCs....it's more content to add to a game you have many hundreds of hours playing and are probably going to add hundreds of more hours playing with the new content. It's a simple thing to grasp. IF you're a year one player, bought the game, 1st two DLCs and TTK, you spent around $140 to get all of this content. Most of these player have well over 500 hours on the game. If that's isn't your moneys worth than I guess theres no satisfying you.
-
First off it's not sudden. The Fallen discovered it. It was locked away and kept secret. If Lord Saladin would have just told everyone about it, a Dredgen Yor wannabe would have gone and released it. As for the consoles. It was gonna happen anyway. Bungie is probably adding something in this dlc that last gen can't handle. And they'd rather add it than wait till destiny 2.
-
I feel for the PS3 gamers. I really do. Ported over my Titan for TTK last year. But it was worth it. Graphics, connection improvements, the whole shebang. If we ever want to see Destiny continually get better, we need to improve, just as much as the game.
-
To your first point of "Bad (Leaving Last Gen)" That's poor listening skills. Because Bungie, Gamestop, commercials, everyone was saying pre-order Destiny for a free season pass of the first two expansions. So to the dummies that complained that they had to shell more money out, they could've saved quite a bit. Otherwise, I'm fine paying for this DLC =D
-
I think that I does seem a bit sudden to introduce something we've never even heard of before. But I dont care. It's plausible in this universe I guess. I like earth the best aside from Mars so I'm good with it. Honestly I was hoping to expand on Osiris next. That story line intrigues me the most.
-
There are actually references to some infection in the Grimoire. I can't remember the name of the Guardian, but he gathered a group together to head south. The southern part of the Wall is where SIVA is located mostly. That group of Guardians was never heard from, but Ghosts started arriving back at the tower with some sort of corruption on them. That is most likely the machine plague SIVA that corrupted them.
-
The premise is fine. It doesn't seem as "grand" as TTK, but that's about it. It follows the same formula as all the other DLC. Bungie just picks an NPC character as the main "storyteller" and quest giver and picks a main enemy race to fight. No matter what they choose it'll more than likely make sense in the lore of Destiny since all enemy races are trying to become the strongest power on Earth. At the same time no less. There's no need for a strong transition to another DLC like TTK did with TDB since the war against the darkness is supposed to be a shit storm. It could even be what TDB did for TTK. A sort of prequel to a larger DLC. I honestly think this is a pretty good direction. We've been doing the Iron Banner for almost 2 years already so it's about time we delve deeper into what Saladin and the other Iron Lords went through. Since its a DLC that involves Saladin, it might give some insight on what happened during the twilight gap as well, which could help set up for something larger, like I said before. Maybe even Destiny 2?
-
I dont think a lot of people on these forums logiclly think things through. The old consoles are unable to handle the content that is coming out for Destiny in the future due to their old hardware. Bungie had to make a choice, ether make future content for Destiny underwelming or ditch legacy consoles. Which would you have chosen?
-
It's sudden for a reason. SIVA is golden age tech, you know the stuff we had before 98% of our civilization got kicked in the face and we got pushed back to one single solitary city on the entire planet of Earth? The same golden age that had weapons that made Gjallerhorn look like a super soaker? The Fallen found an old cache of THAT tech and are infusing themselves with it. This wasn't some long planned out scheme, this just happened and the Guardians need to act as a rapid response force.

It's time to...
Ryuu-ga, Wa-ga-te-ki-wo, Ku-ra-u. 🐉
-
SIVA was always in the lore, just none of us realized it was there. I point you to Ghost Fragment: Titan where it says
/ Good. That Ghost - what do you think is wrong with it? It's echoing something ancient, an Old Earth language. You know what that Ghost reminds me of, flitting about over there? / I don't. / The time Ghosts from Jagi's Host came back without them. Remember - they got in that fight at some point east of the Caspian? Seven Ghosts, damn near silent, buzzing with some sort of corruption. Drifting back to the Tower, one by one. Scared the Speaker well enough
In terms of leaving behind last gen: Definitely good because this means that they have the potential to utilize the full strength of the current gen systems (which they probably won't until D2) and, as you stated, unify the community into two larger ones (if only there was cross play). I hope they find some way to assist players in upgrading. After dropping $350ish (prices are down people, save up a little bit), it's understandable to be outraged to have to pay an additional $40-60 for the game and expansions plus the $30 for RoI. Honestly, the expansions should carry over if purchased on a previous gen, and the base game should drop to ~$20 making the carryover ~$50 at most. Cmon Bungie/$vision/Msoft/Sony, show some love to your supporters.

Edited by OGNoshkanok: 6/11/2016 2:57:09 AMEssentially, I gotta buy an X1, Destiny+Expansions, and RoI, before August? Damn yo my wife's gonna be pissed. But seriously, if I'm on 360 now, and want at least my characters to transfer over to XB1, can I get away with just the console and game, saving the ROI purchase for later?

Last gen held destiny back.

Buy used and will be in much less then the $1000 you are quoiting. Time to buck up. Also it is not like you can't play, you just can't advice. Sorry

Ok, Lets do some math. -To get the base game, TDB, HoW, and the Taken King you only have to pay $30 at GameStop right now. All of your progress will carry over so now you just have to worry about the console and ROTL. -Rise of the Iron releases September 20. That's about 14 weeks and 4 days from now. -An Xbox one cost around $300 dollars alone and the PS4 cost a little more than that. Let's just say they both cost $300 dollars. -$300/14.5 weeks=$20.69 You need to make about 21 dollars each week. But let's add in Rise of the Iron which is $30. So in all you need Destiny and all expansions, a new console, and the new DLC. So $360 in total. -$360/14.5=$24.83 So now you need about 25 dollars a week for almost 15 weeks. Or about $3.60 a day for 15 weeks. Now, you can get a cheaper console if you get it pre owned. Then you can sell your old console to get even closer. I didn't because I had a lot of 360 games so it took longer. You may all have your reasoning for not getting it sooner and that's cool. But it has been about 3 years since they came out, so we all knew this day would come. It is unfortunate that it happened now, but there is nothing we can do about that

"it seems sudden" The Fallen have been digging in the Cosmodrome ruins since day one. I'm happy to see it turn into something.
-
So if I am on PS3 but have a ps4, what do I have to buy and when do I have to buy it in order to transfer my stuff and get iron gjallahorn?
-
I'm a bit late for the party, and I gotta say, I agree with just about everything you said. One thing that really stood out for me though, people aren't liking that this story is "out of the blue". Maybe, maybe, but there could easily be a reason as to why we never told about the SIVA. 1) Even for an Iron Lord, Saladin Forge lost his brothers and sisters to this nightmare, it might be a topic he rather not bring back up willy-nilly. 2) They thought they trapped the SIVA, and as much of a threat as it was, they didn't want curious minds searching it out. 3) I believe this is on the opposite side of the Wall that we're used to. Like, our Tower doesn't normally have jurisdiction there. (Multiple Towers are all over the Wall).
-
I was honestly just wondering if, with the drop of 360 and ps3, we might see the networks connect on xbone and ps4 so we can play with friends across both platforms. As Sony stated, it will be up to the game developers themselves. That's a welcomed thought
