He never smiles, he is quick to talk about the dream of the City, and he has never shied from hard decisions. His life bends under the double weight of honor and duty, each act of service more exhausting, each victory more costly. He continues anyway. He has never had time for anything softer than iron.
He fought in the Battle of Twilight Gap, and was one of the two protégés of Lord Saladin, and he remains close to Saladin still. Now he's the Vanguard Commander, a role which answers directly to the Speaker, as acts as the middleman for the other Vanguard and Factions. He is the Titan Mentor, and guides you on your path to perfecting the arts of the Ward of Dawn and Fist of Havoc.
Thanks to our Guardian's intervening he also now controls a legion of Titans wielding fists of fire.
He sits as the head of the Consensus, leading the other two Vanguard mentors and Tower recognized Factions in the meetings concerning the Tower and City. It is possible there are others within the Consensus but are currently unknown. When the Faction Concordat became too dangerous to allow in the Tower he made the call to remove them, the New Monarchy enforced that ruling, allowing the Future War Cult into the Tower in place of Concordat.
The New Monarchy wishes to overthrow the City Consensus and place one person of impeccable character in its void. They offered this role to him, but he turned them down and continued being simply the Vanguard Commander.
This is the legend of a Titan, this is the legend of Commander a Zavala

Playing Iron banner as my main, (female awoken titan) taking tripmine grenades out w/ my face, fun stuff like that. Went to the tower, nothing to do so I went over to the vanguard table. You know how Zavala is typically really quiet? He was practically talking his head off! What does that mean?
-
He also ignored Shaxx's warning about attacking Crota on Luna. That didn't work out to well.

Yeees, thank you for your input, Er... i mean AnonPig.

Keep up these posts I like reading them

Excellently pieced together, as usual. Zavala was no doubt an imposing figure on the battlefield. He survived the battle of the Twilight Gap, after all. What impresses me about him is his mind. For him to be supported by new monarchy as a potential "king" shows that he is the real deal. Only those with impeccable character would be accepted by ALL. And the fact that he turned it down further reinforces his strength of character. He should have no choice: he should be put in charge whether he likes it or not.

Edited by Fur Hammerlock: 6/9/2016 1:33:20 AMHe's also one of the only three* (thanks, Lt Chardoe) Awoken in the tower, and in addition to being immortal thanks to a Ghost, Awoken already live ~4x longer than Humans.

Edited by V4L4KH: 6/7/2016 6:33:13 PMMan, I love your posts, on a side note, I think Zavala's funniest dialogue ever was in the mission of Phobos starting the Taken war, when Eris says "I feel fingertips on my miiiind" and he was all like, "Eh yes Eris, thank you for your input".

The Legend of a Titan: Commander Zavala: Master of genocide. Ignores all opportunities to create alliances with those just as afraid of the Darkness as we are (the Cabal).

Whether we want i...NOPE!

Oh and lest we forget: He teaches crochet. What a guy.

Edited by SoloXYZed: 6/8/2016 6:00:46 PMHis voice is annoying af too.
-
He was also good in Fringe.
-
Edited by Grasp of Malok: 6/8/2016 1:38:55 AMBut you gotta remember he also made mistakes he regretted. He had a hand in driving the sunbreakers out of the city, yet he wished he didn't do it out of orders in the sunbreaker quest line. I like that he's not the commander who is the perfect badass stereotype. He's a badass that learned through experience.
-
Idk if I missed it somewhere but does it actually say why Saladin and Shaxx don't speak anymore?
-
In the end, only one shall remain.
-
Akka has returned.
-
He's also a ruthless mother-blam!-er. "Forget what they say about the enemy of my enemy. If something stands between you and [your objective], put them down." There are a handful of other quotes that show he has so sympathy for the enemy. None.

"What the HELL was that" -Commander Zavala
-
Yeah he's the guy that always gives my titan a class item after I rank up vanguard. Then he gives a smart ass smirk right afterwards.

Edited by SnakePayne86: 6/8/2016 5:39:20 AMZavala is black, I saw him in a movie. Pretty good actor. Actually kind of looks like Zavala.

"Still, the walls stand." - Lt Daniels... err I mean Commander Zavala

Anyone have any theories on whether he's Reef-born or Earth-born? I remember a card where the Queen specifically refers to Rahool and Zavala as "traitors," which suggests to me that they're both from the Reef originally. Either way, I think it's fantastic that it's a Awoken who is most dedicated to preserving the City and by extension, humanity. He's not even human but he's so determined to protect us. I know alot of people find him dull but to me, that kind d of selfless dedication to duty is compelling.
-
Thanks man, nice reading.

He is also Awoken. Not that relevant, but I like the Awoken being represented in the tower to counteract Rahool ruining the image
