The medium rate of fire type of auto rifle. What are its strengths and weakness and how does it compare to other weapons in the crucible.
- These fire at 600rpm
- Deal about 16 damage to the body and 20 to the head
- It takes 13 body shots to kill or 10 headshots (at least 9 headshots needed plus 1 body)
- Maximum TTK (if you get all body shots) is 1.2s and Minimum TTK (if you get enough headshots) is 0.9s.
With focused fire:
- These Fire at 400rpm
- Deal about 21 damage to the body and about 27 to the head
- It takes 10 body shots to kill or 8 headshots (minimum of 5 headshots with 3 body shot)
- Maximum TTK (if you get all body shots) is 1.35s and minimum TTK (if you get enough headshots) is 1.05s.
(Note: These stats are note tested, I don’t have one of these guns with FF)
(Edit: I've seen several places that these get reduced all the way to 300rpm with focused fire. Basically just don't get FF on these)
This tier of auto rifle includes the Zarinaea-D (gunsmith), SUROS ARI-41 (gunsmith), Haakon’s Hatchet (Iron Banner), and many others.
These Auto rifles are fairly average overall. They have a moderate time to kill, low damage per shot, and medium range and stability. With counter balance the recoil is easy to control even if you don’t have any other stability perks. This makes them accurate at even long ranges. The issue is that their max range is to short putting them at a disadvantage at these ranges. Even with plenty of range perks you will frequently notice range drop off. At close range their TTK tends to be to slow to kill rushing shotgun users or win in gunfights. With these you’ll lose to faster firing autos, and of course the last word. Legendary hand cannon users can also be difficult to fight since you have to hit constant low damage shots and they can hit only a couple high impact shots, this is must notable when fighting from in and out of cover.
For these auto rifles look to maximize stability and also put a little into range when you can. Counter balance is nearly a must have to make these able to get constant headshots.
As mentioned this class already has a hard time with TTK so adding Focused fire is not necessarily great since it decreases the TTK further. Focused fire will reduce the fire rate below the next lower fire rate tier of auto rifle while increasing the damage to less than 1 point greater. The only real benefit is a above average mag size and easier shooting although you will not be able to also get counterbalance.
Overall I would not recommend these weapons since they have little power and aren’t necessarily (in my opinion) even very fun. They pose little challenge for a skilled player and have no high skill way to make them more effective or fun.
What do you think about this type auto rifle? If you do use these high do you prefer to use them?

Do the slow RoF types
-
I don't know about all that. Do alright with my pre-April Rightous VII and HardLight in the right hands will melt wanna be hand cannon users and shotgunner's.
-
Idk man the vender roll Righteous VII pre april update is pretty dang good. It has counter balance, braced frame(i think), and persistence. I melt people with it. I mean I'll lose to someone with a doctrine but it's a lot of fun to use
-
They suck... In lobbies with MIDA and TLW. Just sayin...
-
The necrochasm is a fun beast of a gun to play with in regular pvp
-
My paleo disagrees. Red dot ora Counterbalance Rifled barrel Rodeo
-
I have a Grim Citizen that disagrees with you!
-
Every auto in the game is outclassed by my deadshot luna on my warlock. Lol the best auto is a scout rifle.
-
Shadow price /grim citizen and hakkons hatchet are wicked.
-
They do fine against scrubs and players who aren't as good as you. But anyone as good or better than you will kill you with a hawksaw before you get half there health.
-
Monte carlo with aggressive ballistics used to be a stand out because it would do 21 to the head and had lots of range but after the nerf it's impossible to use agg ballistics and still hit anything. Nobody complained agg ballistics was op bungie just like to piss people off

I like the shadow archetype

I use a Righteous VII with Rangefinder. Their base Stability is already really good, with Rangefinder I'm able to do decent damage across most maps. With the SPO-57 sights, hitting (& finding) domes is easier and the Stability keeps it on target without noticable damage falloff at distances better suited for Scouts and Snipers. Previously, I used a Paleocontact which I thoroughly enjoyed even though I never got a "good" roll. Zhalo Supercell is my "any kind of weather" gun. PvE, PvP, CoE... doesn't matter. Solid weapon. Best class AR right now. Low RoFs need a buff and I haven't found a high RoF that I like (and I have what's supposed to be a good Soulstealer's Claw)
-
So basically... Bullet hoses need more damage drop off, and the other 2 archetypes need a higher crit bonus?

Edited by Tesshu_Yamaoka: 6/7/2016 12:21:18 PMHave a max stability Zarinea with Rangefinder. Still sucks. Edit: Forgot to mention that I do win gunfights from high impact/low RoF autorifles😂

I love my Hakkons hatchet and Zhalo (both have the same ROF). Easy to control, especially with Hakkon being a headshot magnet. I find them to be super useful in many scenarios such when you are shooting down the balls of death during Golg; quickly finishing off ogres on Oryx when they have a sliver of health left. As for PVP, they work fine, much more enjoyable to use than the slower ROF guns. But I find pvp in this game to be cancerous, thus I find I just like how the gun feels and not the pvp itself.

High damage autos need range buff the most there probably the worst guns right now

During the last IB I picked up a Righteous VII from a New Monarchy package with High Caliber Rounds, Rifled Barrel, and Rodeo; I figured I'd mess around with it and found I was making more kills than with my Doctrine of Passing. I feel like getting barraged with the HCR catches people off guard which might be giving me the advantage, it seems like it takes slightly longer to kill than if I was using DOP but I'm getting allot less people with Last Word getting lucky shots in (basically I'll melt them and TLW will just kill me after I've done 95% damage to them and they get away with a sliver of health) But it's not happening with Righteous VII. I'm by no means the best, maybe my aim kinda sucks and I didn't fully utilize the DOP but it's working for me.
-
Hard light is pretty good though. So is the monte carlo with its base stats. But I do agree, I want to use my righteous 7 but it gets outclass by the doctrine at every range
-
Their time to kill is optimal. No buffs needed there. A boost to aim assistance will solve the problem so that headshots land more consistently.

Edited by Dr_Sorethumb: 6/7/2016 8:45:43 PMFor me: High RoF autos should be the spray and play bullet hose; leave them as is. Mid RoF autos should reward accuracy; damage is fine, but give the archetype a stability buff across the board making more hits likely to be headshots if aimed correctly. Low RoF autos should be a bit less accurate than their mid RoF counterparts, but hit harder; to fulfil this role I would suggest a damage buff so they kill in 7 headshots instead of 8 (debatable: buff body damage to make them a 9 hit kill to the body instead of 10). No stability buff needed for this archetype.

I like them the most but since they suck I've been trying to get a god roll shadow price. One day, I'll get it.
-
I have a grim citizen and if you can control the recoil, it absolutely wrecks. And it looks sweet. ;)
-
Yea keep em coming

Impressive analysis, thanks for the vid sir.

Paleocontact is a beast
